The next time you're frustrated standing on the tourist-packed corner of Powell and Geary, take solace knowing you're in the same spot Tippi Hedren crossed in Hitchcock's The Birds. In fact, the next time you're wondering about what the spot you're standing in looked like during a famous movie scene, just look at your phone.

The new Scenepast iPhone app allows users to search for a city and year, see a pic from an old movie scene shot in the area, and then compare it to how the spot looks today. Not only does the app work of films but also TV. (Fingers crossed for Too Close for Comfort scenes!)

(Fun fact: Though not a classic San Francisco movie, my personal favorite shot-in-SF scene comes from All About Eve. The scene where Margo Channing enters the theater, pre-"Princess Fire and Music" rant, is actually the Curran at 445 Geary. Now you know.)

Rent Floating Island, 'Mrs. Doubtfire' House Via Eventup

Looking to throw the most precious wedding ever? In need of a location for that indie film on a shoestring budget? Or just looking for a quiet staycation? Look no further than Eventup, which just launched yesterday in San Francisco.

The site was created by former MySpace CEO Mike Jones' tech studio Science in Los Angeles and expanded to New York before starting up in San Francisco.

Some prime listings include Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe's Home, the World's Only Floating Island, the house from Mrs. Doubtfire, Jimi Hendrix's Apartment, the de Young Museum, the Flood Mansion, lots of swanky hotels, restaurants and museums, and several little quaint private residences. As Eventup's press release notes, it's been called both Opentable for parties and Airbnb for events. We certainly wish it was around when we were planning our charmingly disorganized DIY wedding.

As Technorati notes, it's free to list locations, and Eventup procures a 10% fee for any events booked through their service. According to Yahoo, Eventup manages the entire booking process, "from scheduling a walk-through to booking the location for your event, offering venue owners insurance options to safeguard their property. The company’s customer support care is available 24/7 to answer questions from both venue owners and booking guests to make the event planning process more efficient."

Back In Black

(By Eyleen Tavy)

SF News

711

SF Restaurants, Food & Drink

locations

slurpee

Eyleen

(By Eyleen Tavy)

SFist urges:Hasten to the 7-11 store locator page and find the store nearest you. Got it? Now you know where you'll be going to get a free fuckin' Slurpee tomorrow. As Eater SF cleverly points out, there's a curious synergy with the name of the venue and tomorrow's date. But that's not the only auspicious element --they're also celebrating the advent of the Monster Black Ice Slurpee. Which, just, wow. This is EXACTLY the sort of thing we'd only drink if it were free, so if you're looking for us tomorrow, we'll be the one with the black tongue.
