The screening will also include Jacobs' small-gauge “chamber works” -- his term for the 8mm and 16mm shorts he made in the '60s.</p>

Ireland's highly idiosyncratic body of work focused on the creation and function of art within everyday life. There will be a program in the Wattis Theater at 4 p.m. featuring speakers who were close to Ireland and his work, followed by a gathering in the Schwab Room at 5 p.m.</p>

Moore will discuss her life, her writing, and her new novel, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Gate-at-Stairs-Lorrie-Moore/dp/0375409289"><em>A Gate at the Stairs</em></a>.</p>

Tonight's event will feature a one-night only reading of <em><strong><a href="http://www.crowdedfire.org/inDevelopment.html">Forever Never Comes</a></strong></em> by Enrique Urueta, about a young transgender man who returns home to rural Virginia, which will make its world premiere in 2010.</p>

<p><strong>MUSIC:</strong> Portland-based 12-piece orchestra <a href="http://www.pinkmartini.com/"><strong>Pink Martini</strong></a> will be performing with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra for two nights at Davies Symphony Hall. They will be debuting brand-new material from their yet to be titled new album, which will be released on October 13. Pink Martini was described by the <em>Washington Post</em> as crossing the generational gap, as they seem to speak to "just about everybodyfrom grade-schoolers to grandmothers to the young and hip and beautiful.” </p>
