Here's a few sports stories to get you through the bleakness of the Rox/Sox World Series

Man, let it not be said that Lew Wolff doesn't get sh-- done. First he said he was going to build a new stadium for the A's and he did. Then he said he was going to get us a new soccer team and he did. Today, it's been announced that the San Jose Earthquakes are back from the dead and will start up again next year as an MLS expansion team. The team was in San Jose up until a few years ago but moved away to Houston due to stadium issues. Naturally, in Houston, the nee Quakes won a championship.

Lew Wolff announced today that he's signed an agreement to purchase 168 acres of land in Fremont to build the new A's stadium and requisite development. What this means, essentially, is the A's are one step closer to moving to the 'burbs. Just call 'em the Soccer Mom Team.

-Warriors road woes continue as they get rolled by the Milwaukee Bucks, 122-101. Are the nails being placed in the coffin? Tim Kawakami moves past the standard "will the Warriors make the playoffs" story to give the eulogy for another Warriors season that bites the dust.

Oh, Lew Wolff, look what you've gone and done. In protest of you moving the A's, you've made a couple of frat boys dance...

esterday, we saw what the move of the 49ers means to a 49ers fan. Today we check in with the A's. The thing about all these moves is that you can add up the dollars and cents and it all makes sense from that standpoint, but you can't do that with sports. It's all about the heart and the City and how two become one. But, to paraphrase some line in a movie we can't recall right now, everytime you say it's a sport, they say it's a business and everytime you say it's a business, they tell you it's a sport.

So let's take a look at the news in yesterday's M&R that the A's are about to announce a huge plan to build a stadium near Fremont. Basically, they want to build a privately financed, 36,000 seat, baseball stadium near the former Baylands Racetrack on land owned by Cisco. The reasons for Fremont are obvious and well-known but for sh--- and giggles, we'll go over them again.

It looks like one of the Bay Area's penny-pinching owners is about to sell. And no, it's not the one everyone wishes it were. On Monday, it was reported that A's owners Steve Schott and Ken Hoffman are willing to sell ownership of the A's to Lew Wolff, an LA developer with huge connections to the Bay Area, especially San Jose. Rumors have been flying around for months that this was going to happen but now it’s official. It's not clear how much of the team he is going to buy or who else who be involved, but it is pretty clear that Wolff will be the managing partner and take control of the team. For those of you wondering just what the going rate on a baseball team with an old stadium goes for, it’s upwards of $170 million. While the purchase of baseball team can often be a slow and laborious process, Wolff is expected to take over the team come opening day. That's what happens when you're fraternity brothers with the Bud Selig or the owner of the team you're about to throw wads of money at is one of the people in charge of making the decision. He is, in fact, in Arizona right now at the owner’s meeting pitching his cause.
