In honor of Lesbian Visibility Week last month, Rikki’s sports bar held a raucous pie-eating contest, with a contestant named Jenn winning grand prize, but “best technique” went to 81-year-old Babs Daitch who recently starred in an award-winning documentary.

As SFist previously reported, Rikki’s, the new women’s sports bar in the Castro District, organized a fun-filled pie-eating contest the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The event, which was sponsored by the Curve Foundation, a platform amplifying LGBTQ women's and non-binary voices and culture, featured contestants gorging themselves on a variety of pies, sans hands. The official winner of the contest was Jenn, who appeared quite triumphant in the photo featured in the Bay Area Reporter.

Per the culture blog Them, a second contestant also went home victorious that evening, as 81-year-old Babs Daitch’s earnest pie-eating skills earned her “best technique,” plus a hearty round of applause from the crowd. Daitch can be seen quite animatedly mimicking her technique in the video below. Daitch quips in the caption, “I took my time savoring every morsel of crust hidden beneath those sweet hills and valleys.”

As Them reports, Daitch has lived quite an adventurous life, which is reflected in the short 14-minute documentary film, Thanks, Babs!  The film received Honorable Mention for Outstanding Documentary Short at this year's Frameline49 Film Festival and Audience Honorable Mention for Best Short Film at OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival. In the documentary she calls herself “the lesbian Forrest Gump” and an “optimistic octogenarian speed-racing through life one five-year plan at a time,” per Them.

Per Senior Travel, Daitch's next goal includes acting in ads and creating a sequel to the first documentary. “I need to monetize this – I’m an entrepreneur! I’m not planning to slow down and ‘be an old lady,’” she told the outlet. “I’m just curious to see what adventure’s around the next corner.”

Dipping her toes into the pool of barely-legal love that dare not speak its name, an ex-teacher at a Christian prep school in Sunnyvale was arrested on statutory rape charges. Word has it that Abigail Anne Holloway, 33, had a secret love affair going on with her 13-year-old student, which happened eight years ago, according to San Jose Mercury News. It goes without saying, but Holloway taught physical education while trolling at Kings Academy. Of course. There's a lot to love about SF's fantastic Chinese New Year parade -- and a lot of love the parade as well. Marching for the fifth time in a row this year is API Equality, and LGBT advocacy group serving the Asian and Pacific Islander communities. And you can join them!

Humberto Salvador, 31, Josue Gonzalez, 21 (at right), Darrell Hodges, 16, and an unidentified 15-year-old piece of prison meat all pleaded 'not guilty' in the vicious gang rape of a Richmond lesbian. The four are accused of kidnapping to commit a sex crime and a series of forcible rape, forcible sodomy and forcible oral copulation charges while acting in concert, according to reports. The 45-minute assault started when the victim got out of her car, which was adorned with a rainbow flag sticker. She was beaten, raped, taken to a second location, and left naked by the train tracks. Three of the suspects are scheduled to go back to court on March 5.

Four arrests were made this week after the brutal gang rape of a 28-year-old Richmond lesbian. Josue Gonzalez, 21, the pig at right, was arrested yesterday on a warrant for gang rape, kidnapping for a sex crime, and carjacking. Humberto Hernandez Salvador, 31, and two other teens (the 15- and 16-year-old creeps who went by "Paco" and "Blue) were arrested on Wednesday night for their involvement in last week's vicious hate crime.

If you remember, the hate crime happened after one of the arrested "approached the woman in [and] struck her with a blunt object, ordered her to disrobe and sexually assaulted her with the help of the others." After the guys saw somebody approached, they then kidnapped her and took her to a burned-out apartment building where she was raped again and "left naked outside the building while the alleged assailants took her wallet and drove off in her car."

The ordeal, according to police, started after the four men saw the victim had a rainbow flag on the back of her car. The woman is still recovering from the rape, which is "absolutely" being considered a hate crime.

"This crime has changed her for life," says police Lt. Mark Gagan.

After being taunted for being a lesbian, a woman in the city of Richmond was "repeatedly raped and left naked outside an abandoned apartment building" by four strangers on December 13.

Detectives say the 28-year-old victim was attacked Dec. 13 after she got out of her car, which bore a rainbow gay pride sticker. The men, who ranged from their late teens to their 30s, made comments indicating they knew her sexual orientation, said Richmond police Lt. Mark Gagan.

The rape started when one of the attackers hit her "with a blunt object, ordered her to disrobe and sexually assaulted her with the help of the other men." Unless the men in question aren't brutally and slowly murdered beforehand by citizens, a $10,000 reward is being offered for their capture. One of the men, it seems, went by the nickname "Blue" and another was called "Pato," according to police.

The rape is (correctly) being considered a hate crime by police. According to Avy Skolnik, a coordinator with the New York-based National Coalition of Anti-Violence Program, "Anytime there is an anti-LGBT initiative, we tend to see spikes both in the numbers and the severity of attacks ... People feel this extra entitlement to act out their prejudice." Gay rights advocates say that hate crimes based on sexual orientation have increased nationwide over the last month.

A complaint filed by civil rights organization Californians Against Hate prompted the the California Fair Political Practices Commission to investigate the LDS Church and their work in supporting Proposition 8. It seems the Mormon church allegedly concealed just how big a role they played in initiating a ban into the California constitution that would bar same-sex couples from getting married. According to AP, "the investigation does not mean there was any wrongdoing, only that commission staff have found evidence to warrant further inquiry."

We received an angry letter from an even angrier Prince fan today. (Yes, they still exist.) He or she says to SFist, "I think you're a real creep to print something like that. How would you like it if someone did that to you?" (To answer that question: we probably have it coming.) So,we went back and looked over our "Price Hates Gays" post, and now feel compelled to tell your the truthiness. Prince, it seems, was misquoted regarding his homophobic statements. Allegedly. "We're very angry he was misquoted," says our Prince insider. SFist regret the error. Because a celebrity's PR team holds more truth than a New Yorker journalist.

The smurf who made a name for himself wearing ass-less yellow pants; penning such anthems as Cream, Sexy Motherfucker, Darling Nikki; and having an ouvre based on where he shoots his DNA loads, Prince, it seems, isn't down with the ungodly homosexual lifestyle.

When asked about his perspective on social issues—gay marriage, abortion—Prince tapped his Bible and said, "God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, ‘Enough.' "

Controversy, indeed.

A decision has been made. The California Supreme Court has decided to hear the legal issues over Prop. 8, the same-sex marriage ban which passed by razor-thin 52% of the vote, but said it won't issue a stay against the voter-approved same-sex marriage ban. Which is to say, county clerks will not be allowed to resume issuing licenses to queer couples until the case is decided. Prop. 8 is still in effect.

Court spokeswoman Lynn Holton, according to the The Sacramento Bee, said the court asked the parties who filed the suits to write briefs on three issues:

(1) Is Proposition 8 invalid because it constitutes a revision of, rather than an amendment to, the California Constitution?

(2) Does Proposition 8 violate the separation-of-powers doctrine under the California Constitution?

(3) If Proposition 8 is not unconstitutional, what is its effect, if any, on the marriages of same-sex couples performed before the adoption of Proposition 8?
