The increasingly nasty little rivalry brewing between the Mavs & Dubs took on a whole new dimension as Mark Cuban sued Don Nelson for using some sort of super-double secret confidential information against the Mavs in this year's playoffs. As the old adage says, if you can't beat 'em, sue 'em. ...

Speed kills. It's an old football saw, but it still cuts right to the heart of the matter in sorting out the detritus of last night's BCS National Championship Game: faster is better.

Ding-ding! NBA fans, lehhhhhhhhht's get ready to ruuuuuummmmm-bbbbllllllllllllle -- again.

Saturday night in Madison Square Garden, the most famous boxing arena in the world, the NY Knicks and Denver Nuggets set upon each other in the squared rectangle for what snarky bloggers and snide sportswriters have billed as the Throwdown in Showtown.

Look, we love the 90s as much as anyone. We loved the Smashing Pumpkins and the whole grunge thing and we loved Pubic Enemy and watching "BH 9'er" and "Melrose Place" back-to-back and we loved being in our twenties and partying all night in our tiny apartment in North Beach and actually being able to dream of a Democratic President. But as much as we love the idea of those days, we also realize we can't go back to them. Among other things, it's pretty much near impossible as we don't have a space ship we can slingshot around the sun with. And second of all, we're old enough to realize that, as a wise man once said, you can't go home again. Which brings us back to the Warriors who this morning fired Mike Montgomery and re-hired Don Nelson. That Don Nelson. You know, crazy, eccentric, mad-genius basketball coach known for employing smallish lineups with an emphasis on scoring and well-known inability to go anywhere in the playoffs. That Don Nelson. The Don Nelson who helmed the last hey-day of the Warriors, the RUN-TMC Warriors. The one who accidentally started the whole free-fall downfall of the franchise when he got into it with Chris Webber. And yes, the one who coached the Mavs and couldn't take them to the Finals until he retired and handed the team over to Avery Johnson. ...

This morning while drinking our coffee and surfing the Web, we went to Deadspin and saw this little blurb about Giants' fans treatment of Phillies pitcher Brett Myers. Myers was cited for taking a few swings at his wife and in typical jock-land style, was treated by kid gloves by his employers and the rest of Major League Baseball. Yesterday was Myers first day back from his tiny, tiny suspension and we guess didn't get booed vociferously enough for some people. Thus the Deadspin post, snarking on us Giants. That's followed by the usual snide comments about hippies, overwrought political correctness, and too many lame-ass corporate fans. ...

Even though Larry Brown hasn't been officially fired from his job as coach of the New York Knickerbockers, rumors are already growing that his next coaching destination will be here in Oaktown, as head coach of the Golden State Warriors. We have no idea if there's any dint of truth out there about the rumors and think it's probably just wild speculation due to the fact that Golden State is one of the few remaining NBA teams who Larry hasn't coached yet. He is also neighbors of Warriors owner Chris Cohan in East Hampton. Still, there's enough out there to have message boards full of stories that everyone in Golden State has been fired or at least Brown has already been hired or that Brown was about to fired except Mullin objected and so now Mullin might be fired. ...
