KTVU's Ross McGowan to Retire

Next to La King, Ross McGowan is one of our favorite local on-air personalities. Why? Because he smolders. Also, that low, appropriately condescending voice of his makes "Mornings On Two" that more special. And just look at those arms and broad shoulders! He's the kind of guy you would've wanted to split a baggie and open a bottle of poppers with back in the day. Smart dashing.

A Ton of Fireworks Seized; KTVU Against All Things Sparkly and Fun

Seeing as they are our local FOX affiliate, KTVU already has a TV segment in the works about how fireworks aren't good for anything except misery and conjuring up early childhood trauma. ALSO, today they gleefully bring us this story about the seizure of nearly a ton of illegal fireworks from an Oakland home and truck. "Among the items seized, police said, were bottle rockets, mortar shells and m1000 fireworks." BOO, we say! HISS! The neighbors of the two men arrested similarly came to their defense, saying, "On the Fourth of July, we all have parties. The whole block…They [the men arrested] are not bad people." So whatever KTVU. It's all fun and games until someone we know loses an eye, or conjures an early childhood trauma.

Quote du Jour: KTVU's Sal Castaneda Calls American Idol Winner

During this morning's Mornings On 2 (do do do do do dooooo), KTVU traffic guru Sal Castaneda tells us who he think might win tonight's American Idol competition, the gay screecher or the straight guy.

We love this tribute, which was found by Flickr user tingley at 24th Street at Osage Alley. It even lit up at night. Sniff.

Then you've been watching Mornings on 2 this morning. Since at least 6 a.m., commercials on KTVU 2 have all been stuck on this image. While the audio for commercials is still playing without issue, this is the image that has been frozen on the screen during every commercial break. And while we normally care very little about morning commercials, we can only imagine that people who are really excited about Shoe Week at Ross are stomping their wedges and ballet flats in disapproval.

We apologize for our recent obsession with KTVU, but we just couldn't resist this one.

Just as Ross informed the candidate that they had 20 seconds left and he offered his final question about Bill's role in Hillary's campaign, the senator broke out in a coughing fit and was unable to answer the question.

Complete with heartwarming ultrasound images of a bouncy baby juxtaposed by a stern, deep, and concerned-sounding voiceover warning that babies are dying, a new KTVU teaser began playing this morning for a special report they're airing on Monday at 5.

this evening (the awesome, awesome episode involving double-dipping and Teri Hatcher's breasts), we were teased during a news break to tune into a very special episode of the KTVU 10 o'clock newscast. Intrigued, we watched something else instead. So what did we miss? Dennis Richmond announced that he is going to retire. His last broadcast will be May 21, 2008.

In addition to unveiling the MacBook Air, le Jobs also premiered a new look. Or not. Seamus over at Rangelife picked up on this minor broadcasting muddle over at KTVU. Dennis Richmond will not be pleased.
