San Francisco Animal Care and Control Would Like You to Help Them Swaddle Kittens
We all love kittens and puppies on the Internet, of course, but if you really love animals then you ought to show your support by donating your old towels to SFACC where they will be put to good use keeping all manner of adorable creatures warm this winter. (Or maybe they're just for cleaning cages?)
Adoptable Pets of Week: Tailgate & Storm Trooper
Tailgate (4 m/o) and Storm Trooper (3 m/o) are quite the pair. They met as neighbors while in the Shelter Medicine ward of the Leanne B. Roberts Veterinary Hospital while they were being prepared for adoption. There were furtive little paw swipes through their cages and sniffs through their walls, then friendship. When Storm Trooper’s eye infection necessitated having surgery leaving him sightless, hence his lack of eyes, Tailgate nurtured him and adopted the role of guide-kitty.
Kitten Overload at SPCA
Eeps! Squee! Ack! Aw! Oh my! The start of summer means the start of kitten season. And right now at the SPCA is at "kitten overload." According to an appropriately all-capped and superfluously exclamation pointed post at sfspcacat.blogspot.com, "We are OVERLOADED with kittens, adult cats and to be quite blunt...WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF ROOM!!!!" As of today, the SPCA has 130 cats available for adoption. But we strongly urge you to take in an adult cat. Why? Well, for starters, you don't have to train or housebreak adult felines. Also, since kittens just barely "out-cute" their elders, older cats wait and wait and wait for a loving, safe place to call home. So, if you have a little space, a lot of love, some commonsense, and understand that felines are not accessories, adopt one of these little fellas, won't you? In turn, you will be greatly rewarded. (Seriously, this adoption page will probably make you teary eyed. You've been warned.)
Photos of Sumatran Tiger Cubs Born at SF Zoo
Cute, yes? The San Francisco Zoo just released images of the newborn Sumatran tiger cub triplets born this past week to Leanne and George. Here are a few shots of the new kittens waiting for their first health exam.
Leanne the Tiger Births Cub Triplets
The San Francisco Zoo announced today that Leanne, the 230-pound Sumatran tiger, is now caring for three newborn cubs. The SF Zoo, which came under scrutiny after last year's tiger-related mauling death of 17-year-old Carlos Sousa Jr., says that this is the first birth of Sumatran tiger for the zoo since 1956. It turns out Leanne had three of the cubs over a week ago, but kept them accidentally hidden from view of zoo cameras. According to the chief of veterinary services at the San Francisco Zoo Jacqueline Jencek:
