The manhunt for Shareff Allman, the man suspected of killing three of his colleagues on Wednesday morning at the Lehigh Cement Plant, ended this morning after authorities shot and killed the 45-year-old man. KTVU's Sal Castaneda reports, "KTVU confirms shooting suspect Shareef Allman has been shot and killed by police."

KTVU reports that reporter Tara Moriarty "heard seven or eight gunshots at around 7:45 a.m." this morning "a block away from the HP parking lot where Allman attempted to carjack a woman."

She was transported to SF General Hospital, where she later died. According to San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's press release:

"This is a tragedy, and we at SFMTA extend our sincere condolences to her family for their loss," said Samuel Lau, Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which operates Muni. Per normal procedure, the Operator driving the bus at the time of the collision will undergo drug testing and be placed on administrative leave.

SFPD are currently investigating the tragic, early morning accident at Sixth and Market streets, an intersection famous for being infamous.

The name of the bicyclist killed yesterday has been released. He was Kirk Janes, founder of the American Flyer bike messenger service, and a well-known figure in the local bike messenger community. We like this quote from the Chronicle that describes the kind of guy he was:

Janes had broken his hip while riding on Second Street last year and could have gone on disability from the state. Instead, he quit Speedway Delivery last year, and, after a brief break to recover, started his own business.

"He could have gone on disability, but he decided it would not be the right thing, knowing he was not going to go back to Speedway. He passed up a lot of money, just on principle," said Ryan Akers, a friend and fellow messenger.

That about says it. Please keep this comment thread free of the usual bike vs. car nonsense. We'll repeat what we said in the previous thread: In the meantime, mourn the dead, be happy that you're still alive, and be calm and careful. This city can kill you in any number of ways; walking around in traffic while fuming about something said on the Internet would be a sad way to go. We did not know Kirk, but he and his loved ones will be in our thoughts today. Rest in peace.

9X Strikes, Kills Pedestrian

A few hours later after a car hit a man at the same intersection in Portola,...

misc

9x

Alan Siegel

Bay City News

bus

CBS

City

City News

killed

muni

SF News

Police Department

San Bruno

San Bruno Avenue

San Francisco

san francisco police department

sf

USA

Brock Keeling

A few hours later after a car hit a man at the same intersection in Portola, a Muni bus stuck and killed a pedestrian on Thursday night at around 8:30 p.m. The 9X killed a woman in her 30s at San Bruno Avenue and Bacon Street.

It seems that a driver (accidentally) backed into Hall last night as he was working. This is the second fatal accident to have happened at the Port of Oakland this year, which happened in September.

According to the Examiner, "ILWU spokesman Craig Merrilees said this latest incident highlights the need for better safety protocols at the port." And criminal charges against the tractor-trailer operator. Be careful out there, port workers.
