Yay! San Francisco's so kooky and whimsical and fun! Forgive us our cynicism, ladies and germs. Maybe we've been doing this too long. But the big, annual Valentine's Day pillow fight flash mob thing happened last night, and Justin Herman Plaza was busting out all over with floating feathers. We hope you had fun if you were there! And we'll try to reserve our *yawn*s and snide remarks for the next no pants flash mob. Oh wait, there was also one of those on Saturday night, or at least it was a no-pants party at The Knockout, which has also become an annual tradition. Anyway, yay!

...And Then There Were Skydivers

We didn't see a hundred skydivers, but T-Mobile completed their big mid-day product launch for their hopeful iPhone rival, the myTouch 3G, featuring planes, free-falling, freelance skydivers, colored ...

misc

justin_herman_plaza

publicity stunts

skydiving

t-mobile

Jay Barmann

We didn't see a hundred skydivers, but T-Mobile completed their big mid-day product launch for their hopeful iPhone rival, the myTouch 3G, featuring planes, free-falling, freelance skydivers, colored smoke, mimes, stilt-walkers, BMXers, loud MCs, DJs, many balloons and much brouhaha at Justin Herman Plaza, Pier 39, and elsewhere. Employed people around Embarcadero Center were heard muttering things about the "down economy" and a spectacle the scale and expense of which we haven't really seen since, oh, before the Great Recession. Or maybe the dot-com era. Anyway, here are a few photos. More to come.

UPDATE: A swarm of T-mobile vans has been unleashed on the city, spotted in parade heading up Market Street. Look for one in your neighborhood.

Radio Shack to Call Itself "The Shack" and Have Promo Event on Embarcadero

We guess this gets filed under KFC-like re-brandings without totally throwing out the company name, but Radio Shack want us to start calling it "The Shack" while still holding onto that R-inside-a-cir...

SF News

embarcadero

justin_herman_plaza

promotional_events

radio_shack

Jay Barmann

<img src="https://img.sfist.com/assets_c/2009/08/radio-shack-the-shack-thumb-640xauto-428516.jpg" alt="Radio Shack to Call Itself "The Shack" and Have Promo Event on Embarcadero">
We guess this gets filed under KFC-like re-brandings without totally throwing out the company name, but Radio Shack want us to start calling it "The Shack" while still holding onto that R-inside-a-circle logo of theirs. They're doing a kickoff event, or something, using two "fourteen-foot-tall laptops"--one in Times Square in New York and one in Justin Herman Plaza here in SF--on Thursday morning in which they'll be streaming live webcam images back and forth. Also, they promise "contests, bands, etc." No word on who these bands might be.

Also no word on who these "friends" are that the new campaign names... "Our friends call us The Shack." Say what? We'll update you as we learn more, or maybe we'll even show you some pictures of this dorkfest as they arrive.
