What are you up to Saturday afternoon? If you're not sure yet, we've got the answer: the opening of City At Large: Photographs of San Francisco.

Twelve photographers, many of whom you've probably seen on the pages of SFist, have assembled a great outdoor photo exhibit of over 30 huge prints in the parking lot of Adolph Gasser Photo (181 Second Street).

According to photographer Troy Holden, "the prints were made cheaply on the oversize engineering copy machine at FedEx Office for $9 each. The prints were then wheat pasted to the parking lot walls to ensure they'll stay up for several months."

The photos, as you can see. focus on "candid moments seen while walking around the City," Holden says, from photographers like Chris Beale, Brian Brophy, Reynaldo Cayetano, Jr., Brandon Doran, Troy Holden, Bhautik Joshi, Suzan Kaplan, Doc Pop, David Root, Tiffany Sainz, Oscar Santos, and Brian Sorensen.

Saturday's the show's opening, from 2-5 p.m. "It's free and open to the public," Holden says. "Just come into the parking lot and take a look at the photos."

Happy birthday, Leap Day babies! Since it's leap day, there's the obligatory quadriennial articles about how people born today are 75% younger than the rest of us, and the Chron is no exception. The bissextile among us include Dinah Shore, Ja Rule (holla!), Antonio Sabato Jr., and... San Francisco fire chief Joanne Hayes-White!

In the article, Peter Hartlaub calls Ms. Hayes-White to wish her a happy birthday and ask her what being a Leap Day baby is like.

"I remember growing up as a little girl, my mom would draw a '29' on the calendar in February," said Hayes-White, sounding relieved to talk about something other than that dude who (allegedly) smeared tomatoes and torched a mattress in the historic fire chief's residence the day before we talked. "I didn't understand. 'It's my big day. Why does it get skipped?' "

Raising the walls of the grotto 16.4 feet, in order to meet the minimum guidelines of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the first phase of improving the SF Zoo's four big-cat grottos is complete. The tweaks were needed, as most of you know by now, after Siberian tiger Tatiana escaped and killed Carlos Sousa Jr. during the now infamous Christmas Day tiger attacks.

The second phase of the project, according to the Gate, is "scheduled for completion sometime in March, [which] includes replacing temporary fencing materials with stainless steel wire mesh and installing hot wire along the finger walls of the grottos." As of now, zoo officials aren't sure just when the tiger exhibit will reopen.

And a day before BART Rider Appreciation, no less? Sad.

Yesterday, at around 1:20 p.m. near Apgar Street and Martin Luther King Jr. in Oakland, a 20-year-old man was shot and killed, and an 18-year-old seriously injured, after "being shot on the street near the MacArthur BART station." Police aren't sure why Nathan Taylor or Donte Davis, respectively, were gunned down, but if you know anything, spill it to the police at 510-238-3821.

Due to the "unusual and extraordinary" Christmas Day tiger attack at the San Francisco Zoo -- which resulted in the mauling death of 17-year-old Carlos Sousa Jr. and wounding of Paul and Kulbir Dhaliwal -- a three-member tiger team formed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums has been called in to examine the zoo's big cat grotto. While the investigation and renovations are underway, the tigers and lions are currently kicking it indoors. What's more, according to zoo director Manuel Mollinedo, the cats have been subjected to the wonderful world of Disney:

“Many facts about the events on Christmas Day remain unknown,” zoo director Manuel Mollinedo said at Monday's hearing. “I believe something unusual and extraordinary happened.”

The zoo was working with a security contractor to have a video surveillance system installed, Mollinedo said. Zoo keepers were playing games with the facility's lions and tigers showing them the movie "The Lion King" to keep them occupied while they were stuck inside, he said.

Oh, the horror. Spin- and cinema-wise.

Did you think Tatiana would receive some sort of proper Christian burial after her death on Christmas Day? (You know, the attacks that took the life of Carlos Sousa Jr. and injured Grey Goose connoisseurs Kulbir and Paul Dhaliwal?) Well, you thought wrong. According to today's Examiner, Tatiana will not, in fact, be honored with a gravestone complete old Sicilian widows throwing themselves onto her coffin. Instead, her "body parts will be probed and preserved while the rest, including the tiger’s coat, have already been incinerated." Basically, some of her body parts--such as sections of the liver and heart--are probably in Ziploc baggies inside an SF Zoo freezer somewhere. And her coat? Is ash.

Gross.

But before you alert Peta--do they even care what happens to animals they die?--this is what happens to all zoo animals when they go to animal heaven. (There is so an animal heaven!) Zoo officials are hoping, though, that Tatiana's bones and skull will "end up back at the zoo, where curators can show visitors for an educational experience." That way the big cat we all love/hate lives on via a tool of education.

This year's abortion bash, Walk for Life-West Coast, will take place tomorrow, Jan 19, on the lawn area of Justin Herman Plaza down by the Embarcadero from 10:30 a..m. to 1:30 p.m. And we can't wait! What are you going to wear? We're going to sport our beaver fur-trimmed coat, because...well, we're sure there's a smug murder joke in there somewhere. But if you're able to get up that early on a Saturday morning, you all should head down to the Embarcadero to voice your support and/or disdain. (Why this can't be settled with a pillow fight is beyond us.)

And if dictating what women should do with vaginas doesn't whet your appetite, loopy "reformed murderer" Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King Jr., might sweeten the honey pot. It seems that she will on-hand to speak out about her anti-abortionness. Although King is already here today spreading sunshine all over the place at women's clinic in Oakland, tomorrow you'll get to hear her drop pearls of wisdom her mouth. To wit:

By contrast, Alveda King, a niece of Martin Luther King Jr., calls herself a "reformed murderer" for undergoing two abortions when she was young.

Now an outspoken anti-abortion campaigner, King says the best way to reduce abortions among black women is to dissuade more of them from premarital sex.

"We give free sex education, free condoms, free birth control," she complained. "That's almost like permission to have free sex, and the higher the rate of sexual activity, the higher the rate of unintended pregnancy."

(The aforementioned AP article also brings the always interesting aspect of race into the abortion fold. So interesting that we're going to stay as far away from it that as possible. See that dot over on the horizon? That's us.)

No word yet as to whether or not Deborah Barone will gather with the flock to help celebrate the 35th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, but we hope so. Because: God, we love us some Deborah Barone. Even if she allegedly thinks that we deserve to fry in the eighth circle of hell. Anyway, see you at the party.

According to police reports Paul Dhaliwal admitted to "standing atop a railing of the big cat enclosure and yelling and waving at the animal that would later maul them," killing Carlos Sousa Jr. on Christmas Day at the SF Zoo.

The trio, it seems, were also hopped up on mary jane and expensive vodka. Toxicology reports turned up numbers indicating that Paul was especially wasted during the attack. His blood alcohol level was 0.16 percent after Tatiana's reign of terror, "twice the legal threshold for drunkenness." ("Threshold for drunkenness." Heh.) Kulbir Dhaliwal's blood alcohol level came out to 0.04 percent, and lightweight Sousa's was at 0.02 percent. According to the Gate:

Police said they had recovered messages and images but apparently nothing incriminating in connection with the tiger attack. Investigators seized a small amount of marijuana as well as a partially filled bottle of Grey Goose vodka from the car, according to the inventory that police submitted from the search.

They also found a kit commonly used to defeat drug testing, which included a vial of unisex synthetic urine, police said. Paul Dhaliwal was on probation stemming from a drunken driving incident that occurred before the attack.

Oh oh. Mark Geragos has some explaining to do.

In the battle to see who's going down and who gets what and how much in court, new "evidence" suggests that possibly, maybe, perhaps Tatiana the tiger was provoked. It seems that said proof is in the form of a footprint and blood found inside the tiger enclosure at the SF Zoo. According to the kids down at KCBS:

...a significant amount of blood was found on an exhibit sign inside the tiger enclosure, a foot and a half from the public railing. The blood on the sign indicates someone may have climbed the railing and was attacked while standing in the planted area between the moat and the railing.

The source also said a footprint found on top of the three-foot high railing was located on a portion of the railing across from the sign.

Pro-Tatiana activist and SF Zoo spokesperson Sam Singer also confirmed that blood was found on foliage inside the tiger enclosure. But? How it got thee or whose veins the blood ran through prior to spattering remains unanswered. Khulbir and Paul Dhaliwal's team of attorney deny that the boys were inside the enclosure during the now infamous Christmas Day big-cat attack that killed their friend, Carlos Sousa Jr.

Footprints? Blood? Rapscallions? We really need Jessica Fletcher on this case.
