As many of you recall, four years ago in December of 2006, the nation was hanging onto every tragic detail related to the search for the Kims, a young San Francisco family of four who had disappeared in the deep and frigid mountains of Oregon.
Kati Kim Speaks To '20/20' About Kim Family Tragedy
Family Missing Found! In The Sierras
Can you believe it's been a year since James Kim died in the Oregon mountains? We're very sorry to pass along the news that another Northern California family is missing in what we're hoping is not going to be another family holiday tragedy story.
SFist Blotter
When we go on vacation, we always worry somewhat paranoiacally that our house has burned down, or that the ants have taken over, or that we left all the major appliances running and the iron and the dishwasher are plotting their coup -- but coming home from a two-week vacation and finding a dead body is not a scenario that had occurred to us! The vacationer mentioned that he did have a catsitter coming in periodically while he was gone, but didn't know if that was the dead person because he didn't check the body. Also, the dead body was naked, in handcuffs, and had a plastic bag over its head. Man, we are never going on another vacation ever again.

Texas is thawing, the Northeast is freezing, and a sort of natural order seems almost restored to the Ist-A-Verse. Almost.
Craftwork: Places we like on the Interwebs.
Before we go into our craft blog round-up for the week we wanted to be sure to give a nod to the great work Lisa Congdon and her family did on the art auction for the Kim family. Lisa, Gerrie Congdon, and Stephanie Barnes organized an amazingly successful auction which raised a total of $16,899.11. The generosity of both the people who bid and the talented artists who donated their work was astounding. All of the money will be donated to the James Kim Memorial Fund, and anyone who would like to give but didn’t get a chance to can donate money directly to the fund.

-Pelosi starts right in with the San Francisco values: bans smoking.
-The Governor's health care plan could supercede San Francisco's health care plan.
SFist Rita's 2006
From the Starbucks (not really a) bomber in January to the opening of the Daiso in December, it was certainly one heck of a year, wasn't it?
Day Around the Bay
-Leader of the tree-hugging hippies who were hugging trees at Berkeley was cited and released for trespassing on campus. Apparently, he made the mistake of coming and going from tree.
A Little Tonic For What Ails You
We admit it's been kind of a downer here lately with all the people passing away we've had to write about. First there was James Kim, then Phillyist editor Star, and then today, Leslie Harpold.
So we give you this photo to remind everyone of just what it's all about...cute, furry kittens.
SFist Blotter
In the wake of the James Kim media coverage, the Oakland Tribune and the Chron follow up on a Berkeley family who's been looking for their son, 23-year-old Wallace Richards (pictured at left) for a year, with no leads.

Before we begin, we'd like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of James Kim. We are not, by any means, trying to discount that tragedy by juxtaposing posts about the Kims with more light-hearted posts. It's the nature of doing a compilation such as this one: we're trying to give a full slice of the goings-on in the Ist-a-Verse: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Godspeed, James Kim
This is not a post we're happy to be writing, and probably not a post you're happy to be reading either.
The Kim Family Story
Our thoughts, sympathy, and condolences at SFist go out to the family, friends, and coworkers of James Kim.
Day 11 Of The Kim Family Search
Update: They're waiting on confirmation of status. Rescuers are saying they saw a flash in a wooded area. Others are saying that they've heard news reports that he wasn't face down. All the news is kind of crazy right now; we're going to wait until we get something official before posting anything else.
Still Looking For James Kim
Update: They've got a scaled-down night crew working. Here's the most recent CNET article. Also, some biographical information about the couple.
Update On The Kim Family
Nothing definitive yet on the missing Noe Valley family. Parents James and Kati Kim were traveling back from Washington in the family station wagon (license plate DOESF) with daughters Penelope and Sabine when they disappeared a week ago today on the way to the Tu Tu Tun Lodge on the Oregon coast. The weather was reported to have been very bad that Saturday.
