The International Animation Festival starts tonight, kids. And speaking of them, don't bring yours to tomorrow night's wonderfully smut-filled orgy of animated shorts, Top Drawers.

Last week's winner, the deceptive SF Weekly. Letters abound, either outraged by the fake Barry Bonds story or entertained by the elk. Why don't the negative letters have the names of the authors? Are you now questioning all the journalism you read in the Weekly now, or did you just think it was a good joke? Matt Smith says Gavin Newsom is supporting a cult. No, not the cult of Gavin, though no doubt Gavin supports that too. Cover article: a family that's had two kids shot near the Sunnyvale housing project. It's a really interesting story! This weekend alone: Litquake, the Zine Fest, and Tease-O-Rama. It's good to live in SF! Meredith isn't so happy with an appetizer bar; SFist Ced isn't so happy with Meredith! Mercredi, C'est Ravioli will continue!!!! Yay! Recent disaster concerts in the Bay Area -- at least Lady Sovereign and Lauryn Hill showed up, unlike MF Doom. We liked Let's Get Killed's pensive mature tone about the tough times Rogue Wave's gone through, we really did. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and the Bouncer deconstructs the dive bar.

Who doesn't love free movies? Comcast and cable channel IFC are sponsoring three nights of free movies starting today through Thursday in Union Square, to celebrate the awesomeness of indie film. Plus: free!

Not everybody is screaming for Gavin to resign or telling him that shame, shame, everybody knows his name as there's a Facebook group out there called "Gavin Newsom is a P.I.M.P" You can see the bio above. And, of course, no Facebook entry would come complete without the always fun comments. This entry has such comments as "he can cheat on me any day" or "he pimped me so good last summer. ill never forget it." At this point, there's fifty-one members but expect that to shoot up at in a bit, especially as we post on it.

Attendee at Litquake pub crawl music writers event, watching a clip of the Beatles performing : "This is like space music."

, our companion remarked "That wasn't a different story at all!" Unfortunately, he was correct, as very little in this documentary detailing the trials and tribulations of Michael's career as an "international superstar" was new news to us -- and we haven't purchased a George Michael album since 1987's Faith.

cho-assassin-200.jpg "Everyone who comes to a Margaret Cho show is either gay or Asian," one of our companions said as we fought our way into Symphony Hall on Friday night among the oceans of Banana Republic pants, leather jackets, and nicely-pressed colorful tops, for the first of Ms. Cho's SF shows on her new Assassin tour. "Or both!", responded our gay Asian-American companion. Margaret Cho is, of course, San Francisco's no-holds-barred Korean-American comedienne, and a proud dropout of Lowell High who then went on to star in the first-ever Asian-American TV comedy, All American Girl -- which then became the first-cancelled Asian-American TV comedy. And then the subject of Margaret's real breakout one-woman show and book, I'm the One That I Want. She brought her latest stand-up show back home, to an ecstatic, cat-calling crowd. Hit the expand-o-tron below for more Bush jokes than you can shake a stick at, and an update on Margaret's mom's health.

189.jpg Well, we just heard Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" on the radio the other day (the kickoff song for the season), so it's official -- Santa Claus will be coming to town. And with him comes an assortment of Bay Area secular holiday entertainment -- kittens in the windows of Macy's, the Kristi Yamaguchi ice-skating rink at Justin Herman Plaza, caroling children thrown out of Union Square and then shamefacedly reinvited at the command of Mayor Gavvie Gav to sing at City Hall instead..... and how could we forget? Tap-dancing Christmas trees! 193.jpgThe Oakland Trib profiles some of the more unique Bay Area Christmas entertainers, including the 28-member strong tap-dancing Christmas tree troupe, the trumpet-playing gorilla Santa Claus (he dresses up as Vampire Gorilla for Halloween), the Incredible Hulk Santa, and the Nerd Elf, among others. And The Standing Room gives us the lowdown on the itinerate life of the seasonal Dickensian caroler. (Who knew there were four verses of Jingle Bells?) So while you're frantically trying to get all your presents purchased (maybe at some of the stores we're profiling?), don't forget to kick back for a bit and enjoy the scene -- over a cup of scammed free cider from Williams-Sonoma. Pictures courtesy of The Standing Room. Check out that sexy tap-dancing Christmas tree hip-wiggle!
