Behold The Temporary In-N-Out In Shanghai

Behold The Temporary In-N-Out In Shanghai

For a one-day tasting event (known to the horrific as a "pop-up"), In-N-Out, arguablyCalifornia's best purveyors of hamburgers, opened a temporary stand in Shanghai. As Serious Eats notes, "The menu at the tasting advertised some not-so-secret menu items and didn't have the full line up of drinks or fries, but otherwise looked similar to the regular menu." (No fair posting Animal Style! Is nothing sacred, God?) more ›

The Only Redistricting Map That Matters: California Organized by Proximity to In-N-Out Locations

The Only Redistricting Map That Matters: California Organized by Proximity to In-N-Out Locations

Behold: California, Animal Style. Or perhaps more accurately: what California would look like if we organized our districts by proximity to In-N-Out Burger Locations. From the delightfully geographic mind of Yo-Shang Cheng, who also brought us Visualizing Mental Maps of San Francisco. And, while we don't think the creator had politics in mind, it looks like Leno gets control of the Fisherman's Wharf location and Daly City In-N-Out customers - you're stuck with Leland Yee. more ›

How to Make In-N-Out's Double-Double Animal Style

How to Make In-N-Out's Double-Double Animal Style

Lindsay William-Ross at LAist brings our attention to a serious gastronomic matter: making you own In-N-Out Double-Double Animal Style burger. "Using a serious of mathematical formulas, a care package shipped overnight from California, and some kitchen intuition, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt of the site's 'A Hamburger Today.' completely breaks down everything on the burger from spread to beef and what it means to 'grill the mustard' on the patty," William-Ross explains. more ›

Peninsula Gets Another In-N-Out

Peninsula Gets Another In-N-Out

Already basking in the glory of having a Chili's, two Targets, and a Krispy-Kreme, the Peninsula can go straight to hell after signing a deal to get another In-N-Out in their neck of the woods. Bah. The family-owned chain will drop a spore at 949 Veterans Boulevard in Redwood City, providing the South of San Francisco set with affordable, tasty food that's as California as surfing, "like," and oversized purses. San Francisco, as many of you know, has only one In-N-Out, located in the impenetrable Fisherman's Wharf area. [Biz Times, via Grub Street] more ›

SF Chron Food Folk Pick Personal Favorites

SF Chron Food Folk Pick Personal Favorites

Say what you will about The Chronicle, the gastronomes at Fifth and Mission know grub inside and out, period. Today some of The Chronicle's noted food writers reveal their favorite Bay Area dishes. While Chicken Joy at Jollibee was left off the list (sheer egregiousness), there are some true gems. Lynn Char Bennett likes the Mossabaha at Old Jerusalem Restaurant. Stacy Finz would like to binge eat Michael Mina's "deliciously decadent" lobster pot pie. Wine Editor Jon Bonné mainlines Verduno Pelaverga at SPQR and Perbacco whenever he has the chance. And dear Paolo Lucchesi temps the cavity creeps with a fondness for the caramels at Manresa. Michael Bauer, however, drops our jaw by fawning over the Jan Brady of In-N-Out: the single cheeseburger. "It's a secret indulgence," he coos. (The single cheeseburger, eh? Not the Double-Double? Damn you, Bauer, for you will never cease to fascinate and surprise.) Read the list in its entirety. more ›

Biggest Dining Surprise of the Year: In-N-Out, or Lack Thereof

Biggest Dining Surprise of the Year: In-N-Out, or Lack Thereof

Paolo Lucchesi at Eater complied a super swell list of this year's biggest dining surprises according to local notables (including yours truly). But Lucchesi, of course, is the only one who goes right for the gut. Insofar as the biggest grub surprise of 2009 goes, he writes, "That there is still only one In-N-Out—sans drive-thru—in this entire city but there are 20 La Boulanges." Truer words have never been typed -- White Night Riots material, folks. Here's to hoping the Synder family drops a few more spores in SF in 2010. more ›

Double Double, Toil And Trouble

Usually, whenever we see some story about corporate boardroom battles and stockholders suing each other, we just yawn and go straight to the gossip pages. But not this story.
