In the first, a person was fatally shot on the 1800 block of Sunnydale Avenue in the city’s Ingleside District, with police responding to the scene at 10:43 pm.

According to an SFPD release, police found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds and attempted to render aid. The victim was then transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, and was later pronounced dead.

No further information was provided about the victim or the circumstances of the shooting.

Minutes later, or just about simultaneously, police responded to a home on the 2200 block of 22nd Avenue, in the Sunset District, on a report of a shooting. The home is located near Santiago Street, and across the street from Lincoln High School.

Arriving officers reportedly found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

KRON4 reported from the scene, saying that a male suspect was taken into custody. Neighbors on the quiet street were reportedly looking on as police secured the area, and a pool of blood was apparently seen on the sidewalk.

Both of these remain active cases, and anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD tip line at 415-575-4444, or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with “SFPD.” Tipsters can remain anonymous.

These appear to have been the 11th and 12 homicides of the year to date in San Francisco. As we noted following the 10th homicide, the city has been seeing a bizarre uptick in killings since the start of the new year, and has been strangely tracking for one homicide per week — which is about double the rate the city saw last year.

In 2025, San Francisco recorded the lowest number of total homicides since 1954, a total of 28, which was a 20% drop from the already low number recorded in 2024, which was 35.

Victim In Ingleside Home Invasion Homicide Identified as 38-Year-Old Woman

Some more information has emerged about the Sunday home-invasion robbery in Ingleside that resulted in a homicide, and the suspect has now been charged with murder.

SF News

murder suspect

murders

homicides

ingleside

Jay Barmann

Some more information has emerged about the Sunday home-invasion robbery in Ingleside that resulted in a homicide, and the suspect has now been charged with murder.

On Tuesday, 45-year-old Cassidy Wyatt Allen was charged with murder following the Sunday afternoon killing of a woman inside a home on Granada Avenue in SF's Ingleside District. Allen was arrested not far from the scene, and 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard, after police officers were called to perform a welfare check on an individual reportedly sprawled on the sidewalk, and recognized him from a suspect description.

We now learn that the victim was a woman, 38-year-old Jessica Alejandra Sanchez Landaverde. As KRON4 reports, arriving officers found the victim on the floor in a bedroom of the home, "lying on her back at the foot of the bed with her head pointed toward the door."

Details about the victim's injuries have not yet been publicly disclosed by police, but the New York Post reports that she was severely beaten.

We also now know that a tenant in the home had called 911 when she arrived and heard something suspicious happening inside. Per KRON4, the tenant said when approached the door she heard someone inside run up and lock it, and she returned to her vehicle to call police.

It's unclear when or how the suspect fled the scene, but police say they observed a window near the front door that was ajar, with blinds that appeared to have been disturbed.

Prosecutors on Tuesday charged Allen with murder, with a special circumstance allegation that the murder was committed during a first-degree burglary, as well as one count of first-degree residential burglary.

Cassidy Wyatt Allen, in a mugshot from the Del Norte County Sheriff's Office

The New York Post reports that Allen has an extensive rap sheet with arrests in multiple California counties for second-degree robbery, battery, assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting injury on an elder or dependent adult, possession of burglary tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was reportedly enrolled in a diversion program following one of these cases.

Allen was due to be arraigned at 1:30 pm Wednesday, and prosecutors are requesting that he be held without bail pending trial.

Arrest Made In Ingleside Burglary Turned Homicide

San Francisco police have made an arrest in a shocking burglary that turned deadly on Sunday afternoon.

SF News

ingleside

burglaries

homicide count

homicides

crime

Jay Barmann

San Francisco police have made an arrest in a shocking burglary that turned deadly on Sunday afternoon.

As reported earlier, police arrived at a home on the 200 block of Granada Avenue in the Ingleside District around 3 pm Sunday after a report of a burglary. At the scene they found an adult victim who has yet to be identified who was suffering from undisclosed injuries.

Arriving paramedics performed CPR and took other life-saving measures, but the victim was prnounced dead at the scene.

It's unclear whether the victim or a separate witness initially reported the burglary, but police apparently had a suspect description. And sometime between Sunday evening and Monday afternoon, police from Taraval Station responded to a call for a well-being check in the area of 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard.

A man, whose condition was not described by police, was found there and appeared to match a description of the suspect linked to the Granada Avenue burglary and homicide.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Cassidy Wyatt Allen of San Francisco, was detained without incident, according to the SFPD, and detectives developed probable cause to place Allen under arrest. He was booked into county jail Monday on suspicion of murder.

No further details about the crime or the deceased victim have yet been released.

This appears to be San Francisco's 25th homicide of the year to date.

While an arrest has been made, this is still an active investigation. The two-vehicle crash occurred at 1:20 am Monday morning at the intersection of Grafton and Jules avenues

Police are accusing the driver of one of the vehicles of operating under the influence. They’ve charged that driver, 21-year-old Jayden Elliott Patrick of Santa Rosa, with a slew of charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.

The victims’ names and ages have not been released. But two women who were in one car were declared dead at the scene. Four adults were in the other car, and three were hospitalized; one with life-threatening injuries, the other two with non-life-threatening injuries.

It’s unclear whether the accused DUI driver Patrick was among those injured. SF County Jail records show Patrick was booked at 7:24 am Monday morning, and currently remains in custody without bail.

While an arrest has been made, this is still an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD tip line at 415-575-4444, or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with “SFPD.” Tipsters can remain anonymous.

Related: Cycling Community Outraged as Presidio DUI Driver Gets Very Generous Plea Deal After Killing Cyclist [SFist]

Image: San Francisco Police Department via Facebook

Twin Peaks Tunnel About to Shut Down Again for Eight Days, Starting Thursday

Heads up, those who ride Muni’s K, L, M, and S lines — the West Portal and Forest Hill stations, and all of the Twin Peaks Tunnel, will be closed for eight whole days, effective Thursday morning.

SF News

muni

muni sfmta

sfmta

L-Taraval

m-ocean view

ingleside

twin peaks tunnel

Joe Kukura

Heads up, those who ride Muni’s K, L, M, and S lines — the West Portal and Forest Hill stations, and all of the Twin Peaks Tunnel, will be closed for eight whole days, effective Thursday morning.

The Muni light-rail’s Twin Peaks Tunnel connecting the Castro, West Portal, and Forest Hill stations is more than 100 years old, and it needs a little maintenance from time to time. The tunnel was shut down for repairs the weekend of June 22-23 (the weekend before this year’s SF Pride), and a month later was closed for the weekend of July 20-21. But the tunnel’s biggest closure now looms starting Thursday morning, as NBC Bay Area reports the SFMTA will close the Twin Peaks Tunnel for eight days, for the entirety of Thursday, August 22 through Thursday, August 29.

The West Portal and Forest Hill stations will be closed for the entire eight days. Alleged gang member and aspiring rapper Javier Campos, 22, was arrested days after the shooing in Santa Cruz County.

Meanwhile, Stratos nightclub is facing a possible suspension of its entertainment permit at an upcoming meeting of the SF Entertainment Commission.

Related: Three Injured In Shooting Outside Balboa Park Nightclub

Photo via Google Street View

Two Separate Overnight Fires In San Francisco Leave One Person Dead

A fire broke out late Friday at an encampment and spread to a warehouse in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco, but had no injuries; a second fire broke out early Saturday morning at a home in Ingleside and left one person dead.

SF News

brush fire

house fire

warehouse fire

ingleside

bayview

Holly Secon

Two separate blazes occurred in San Francisco late Friday night and early Saturday morning, one in a warehouse and one in a residence. SFPD Public Information Officer Robert Rueca told KRON4 that “One victim suffered life threatening injuries and the other victim suffered non-life threatening injuries,” and the SF Standard had the additional update Tuesday afternoon that one victim was a 41-year-old from SF with non-life-threatening wounds, and a second victim life-threatening injuries is a 30-year-old from Oakland.

But regrettably, that was just one of several apparently unrelated shooting incidents that took place between 8 p.m. Monday night and just after 2 a.m. Tuesday morning. KRON4 now reports on two separate shootings in the Ingleside neighborhood, the first at Grafton Avenue and Jules Avenue, the second at Holloway Avenue and Harold Avenue.

“Police responded to the first shooting at about 8:13 p.m. The victim, a 45-year-old man from San Francisco, had non-life-threatening injuries. SFPD arrested Larry Victoria, 58, of San Francisco and recovered the gun,” according to KRON4. “The second shooting happened just before 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. SFPD said the victims were sitting in a parked car when multiple suspects opened fire on them. Two victims, a 29-year-old and a 36-year-old, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.”

The SFPD Investigations Bureau tweeted about a fourth shooting at roughly 1:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at Hyde and Fulton Streets — i.e. UN Plaza. Police say they found two victims, both with life-threatening injuries, one of whom was shot and stabbed, and the other of whom was stabbed. Police say they were multiple suspects.

The SFPD also reported on a fifth shooting at 2:12 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Mission, at 19th and Guerrero Streets. In that incident, multiple suspects in an SUV exited a vehicle and accosted multiple victims in a vehicle behind them, robbing them and shooting one of them before fleeing the scene. The victim who was shot was left with life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about any of these shootings is asked to call the SFPD's tip line at 415-575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" at the start of the message.

Related: Dozens of Shots Fired Into SoMa Building, Two Men Injured [SFist]

Top image: Justin Sullivan/Getty Images

SFPD Seizes $200,000 of Allegedly Stolen CVS and Walgreens-Looking Items From SF Man’s Home

What looks to be a brazen stolen goods fencing operation, with items that sure appear straight lifted from shelves of Walgreens and CVS, was allegedly netting one San Francisco man $500,000 a year as he just resold the stolen loot online.

SF News

sfpd

ingleside

theft

crime

Joe Kukura

What looks to be a brazen stolen goods fencing operation, with items that sure appear straight lifted from shelves of Walgreens and CVS, was allegedly netting one San Francisco man $500,000 a year as he just resold the stolen loot online.

The San Francisco discourse on stuff stolen from Walgreens and CVS retailers correctly assumes that the items are being resold, but we may be wrong to assume that they’re being resold on street corners like 24th and Mission. The real money may be in reselling the stuff over online platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace, where sellers can enjoy total anonymity, and the customer base is happy to pay a much higher price than a Mission Street haggler would.

Arrests Made in Organized Retail Theft Fencing Operation

The four-month investigation leads to the seizure of nearly $200,000 worth of stolen goods.

That appears to be the case, as the SFPD sees it at least, with the latest arrest that yielded an estimated $200,000 worth of stolen items from a home on Milton Street.

This is still a useful peek into the world of reselling stolen retail goods, and how online marketplaces may be a much bigger problem than nickel-and-dime street vendors. The SF Board of Supervisors approved a resolution in December urging Congress to pass the INFORM Act, which would require online marketplaces to “to collect, verify, and disclose certain information from high-volume, third-party sellers.” But that legislation has been stuck in the U.S. Senate for more than a year.

Note: An earlier of this version of this post incorrectly identified Milton Street as being in the Ingleside neighborhood, as it is described a such in the SFPD press release. The class-warfare debate on neighbors’ struggles with unsheltered populations has also been ignited in Ingleside, as the Examiner reported last weekend that a roughly four-foot-wide pedestrian walkway right off Ocean Avenue was walled off and shuttered as neighbors complained of “needles in our front yard” and frequent “screaming, swearing, fighting” in the walkway. The contained sidewalk itself is rather small and discreet, though, and according to KRON 4 it’s been a public walkway for more than 100 years.

More significantly, KRON 4 reports that “the head of the Department of Public Works signed at the director’s order allowing the lane to be sealed off at both ends by a temporarily locked gate.” In other words, a lockable gate is probably coming, but who knows which way public sentiment will turn.

Image: Joe Kukura, SFist

SFist’s visit to the site this morning showed that yeah, people probably are crashing on the sidewalk.
A woman returning home with her dog suffered an unexpected attack Sunday, when a coyote snapped up the pup as she stood at her front door.

CBS 5 reports that the incident occurred at on Sunday morning in SF's Ingleside district an area along Ocean Avenue and near Balboa Park a quiet residential neighborhood known more for its proximity to CCSF's main campus than for wild animal attacks.

A 13-year-old Shih Tzu named Bella was returning home with her guardian, a woman named Jodi, when the attack occurred. According to CBS 5, Jodi says "the coyote raced up the front steps and grabbed her dog while she was getting her keys to enter her house" then "took off down the side of the house, jumped over a fence and ran down an alley."

Oddly enough, though the coyote killed Bella, it didn't eat her, leaving Bella in that same alley for Jodi and her husband to find her later on.

Though the Ingleside seems less ideal for coyotes than, say, the Presidio, where last month dog guardians said coyotes were growing more and more aggressive, they are still sometimes seen.

“My wife saw one in the middle of the day walking down" an Ingleside street, one of Bella and Jodi's neighbors told CBS 5. He says that another time, a coyote followed him as he walked down the street "then stopped in the middle of the intersection so I turned around and challenged it.”

San Francisco's Animal Care and Control says that San Francisco's current coyote population is somewhere between 50-100, with the majority living in wooded areas like the Presidio, Golden Gate Park, and Stern Grove. It's the latter spot that's seen the some of the most high-profile coyote attacks, which between that and a dog killed in his Balboa Terrace front yard spurred a Board of Supervisors hearing in March 2016.

But despite the Supes hearing, coyote attacks continued in the city, with a cat killed on its Park Merced doorstep just a few months after the political event. It's almost like coyotes don't read the news or something.

SF officials are working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for the best way for human and coyote culture to coexist in SF, but don't expect any easy solutions. After all, though SF ACC Executive Director Virginia Donohue told CBS 5 that “For a coyote to come up on a porch is definitely not a good thing,” it's unclear what, other than never allowing your pets to leave the house, could have averted Sunday's sad situation.

A groundbreaking new short film shot in San Francisco’s Ingleside District recently won the Student Filmmaker prize at National Association of Theater Owners CinemaCon, and the winning film “Sirens” is now available on YouTube (and embedded below!). But “Sirens”, directed by SF State student Shane Murphy, has a crazy twist — it’s a ‘choose your own adventure’ movie with eight different possible endings, and you the viewer get get to crawl inside the protagonist’s head to make his choices and decide his fate.

“Sirens” can be seen above, and at first glance appears to be six minutes, 16 seconds in length. But it’s actually about twice that long, because at the end of the six minutes you get the choice of “Take the gun” or “Refuse the gun.” Each of your decisions sets off another short film, based on whatever decision you just made.

Be aware that this technology, powered by an app called TimePlay, only works on a desktop computer. I tried it on an iPhone and couldn’t make the choices, then on an Android mobile device it just skips to some other unrelated video on YouTube. So you’ll only get the full effect if you’re using YouTube on a desktop computer, though Murphy insists the filmmakers are working on updates that make the film fully operable on mobile platforms.

Still, it’s neat take on filmmaking technology and does not require any additional plug-ins or downloads. The film’s director Shane Murphy hopes to see other streaming platforms enable similar technology, and bring in a new era of interactive movie viewing.

“Interactive media is the direction content is heading,” Murphy told Golden Gate Express. “Filmmakers like myself need a way to host and distribute that content without losing (viewers) because of the interface.”
