Mountain View police say that a friend of Tupper's called the Mountain View Police Department Emergency dispatch center on Monday around 2:30 p.m. and said that her friend had just given birth and the baby was stillborn.

As KPIX reports, police officers arrived at the home on the 2000 block of Leghorn Street and found the baby "discarded" outside the home. Paramedics took Tupper to the hospital for treatment, and Mountain View detectives began investigating the case, under the Santa Clara County Child Abuse Protocol. An autopsy would reveal that the infant sustained serious injuries after being born alive.

Tupper was subsequently arrested Wednesday after being released from the hospital. Police say they believe Tupper acted alone.

"We all know just how vulnerable babies are and innocent they are so it hits home on a lot of different fronts for a lot of us," says Mountain View Police Chief Chris Hsiung, speaking to KTVU.

Mountain View Police Sgt. A Facebook page that appears to belong to Tupper listed her location as Vista, California, in San Diego County, and it showed her working as a colorist and salon manager at a hair salon in Kennewick, Washington as of 2019.

Mountain View police say they are still trying to gather information about the infant's father.

Photo via Mountain View Police Department

SF Man With Alleged Domestic Violence History Charged In Killing of Infant In His Care

A suspect with a history of prior arrests for domestic incidents has been arrested and charged in the April 20 death of a 7-month-old boy in San Francisco who had been left in his care.

SF News

crime

chesa boudin

recall chesa boudin

murder

homicide count

infanticide

Jay Barmann

A suspect with a history of prior arrests for domestic incidents has been arrested and charged in the April 20 death of a 7-month-old boy in San Francisco who had been left in his care.

District Attorney Chesa Boudin announced murder charges Monday against 26-year-old Joseph Williams, stemming from the death last week of an infant identified only as Baby S. The child, who is not related to Williams, was brought in to California Pacific Medical Center by Williams with signs of blunt force trauma to the head, as KRON4 reports, and the baby then died.

"The death of Baby S is a tragedy," Boudin said in a release. "We are so deeply sorry for the family, whose enormous grief we can only imagine."

"My office has filed murder charges and we will put every resource at our disposal into prosecuting this case,” he said. "We know nothing can make the family whole again, but we will work our hardest to make sure there is justice. In both cases, Williams was freed without being charged because of a lack of evidence to prove that he, and not the girlfriend, was criminally responsible for the incident.

"We believe the available facts of these two cases supported the decision to not move forward with charges, but that is not enough," Boudin’s office said in the release, addressing what will likely become another knock against Boudin in the ongoing battle to recall him. "In light of this tragedy, we will be reviewing all policies related to charging domestic violence crimes, including discussions with our law enforcement partners to ensure we are all using best practices to obtain admissible evidence and to support victims."

The Chronicle reports that the reason charges were not filed in the two incidents was the girlfriend declined to cooperate with prosecutors.

Photo: Getty Images

Dead Baby Found at San Jose Garbage-Sorting Facility

A deceased infant was found on a conveyor belt amid trash and recyclables Friday morning at a waste-sorting facility in San Jose.

SF News

San Jose

homicide

infanticide

Jay Barmann

A deceased infant was found on a conveyor belt amid trash and recyclables Friday morning at a waste-sorting facility in San Jose.

Workers called 911 at 3:31 a.m. to report the discovery, which happened at the GreenWaste Recovery facility located at 625 Charles Street, as KPIX reports. When she was arrested in a regional park outside of Livermore, California, she apologized to police officers, "I'm sorry, I killed my baby."

On April 26th, East Bay Regional Park police officers were responding to reports of traffic collision on Arroyo Road when they found an abandoned Honda. Newton was in the road, "holding a lifeless baby in her arms," a police report said.

But True Crime blogger and former FBI agent Jim Fisher, dug deeper into the story. According to Fisher, witnesses saw a woman repeatedly ramming her Honda Civic into a stone wall near Camp Arroyo, but the woman was gone by the time police arrived. Two hours later, Mike Harris, an off-duty police chief from nearby Livermore, was getting into his car with his wife and kids about 200 yards away from the wreck when Newton came stumbling out of the woods, covered in blood and holding her son:

Shortly after the chief's daughters climbed into the family vehicle, a young woman wearing a sweatshirt and jeans caked in blood approached the Harris family. In her arms she carried a blond-haired, 7-month-old boy dressed in Cookie Monster diapers and a blue striped pullover. The child was also covered in blood. The distraught woman handed the boy to the chief. "Take him! Take him!" she yelled before climbing into the car with the chief's daughters.

The police chief assumed that the woman and her son had been injured in the nearby wrecked Honda. He alerted officers and paramedic personnel who were down the road investigating the accident. A member of the emergency crew, shortly after starting CPR on the boy, realized that he was dead. The child had been stabbed to death.

As CBS puts it, the witnesses tried to help, but the baby was pronounced dead. According to a statement from East Bay Regional Park police Sgt. Tracy Desiderio, Newton "made several spontaneous statements indicating that she had killed the baby," and admitted to the stabbing after officers read her miranda rights.

A knife was found at the scene and Newton had apparently tried to stab herself in the wrist. She was taken to a nearby hospital before she was taken into custody and charged with murder with an enhancement clause for the knife.

The next day, during questioning at the Santa Rita Jail, Newton was described as "paranoid and detached from reality." According to the baby's father, who last saw her the day before the incident, Newton had been suffering from depression. Authorities have not released the results of their toxicology test.

Tiffany Lopez, 19, who is three months pregnant and was arrested on child endangerment charges in December, is alleged to have suffocated "Kamilah in their second-floor apartment on the 2800 block of High Street." Initially telling investigators that she accidentally sat on her daughter, the Mary Jones-esuqe mom went on to tell police that "she had become frustrated with her daughter."

According to SF Chron, Kamilah was described as a "beautiful, intelligent, energetic - a lively baby" who loved the color pink and Dora the Explorer.
