Sheesh. District 1 Supervisor Eric Mar tried to ka-pow today's Batkid joyousness in San Francisco, saying, "Waiting for Miles the BatKid & Wondering how many 1000s of SF kids living off SNAP/FoodStamps could have been fed from the $$..."

Like, we get it, Eric. But come on, man. Such a buzzkill.

Anyway, if you're also concerned about feeding hungry kids—as you very well should be — join Supervisor Wet Blanket on 11/21 for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Challenge & Food Security Task Force hearings.

UPDATE: Noting that the words he tweeted were "not meant to diminish how special today was," Supervisor Eric Mar sent SFist the following statement clarifying his minor Batkid social media snafu. He says:

It is truly remarkable to see the City coming together around BatKid to support such a lovable and brave little boy and in doing so creating an indelible moment in our history.

I am proud of San Francisco and the thousands of volunteers and donors for rallying around Miles, and I salute the Make a Wish Foundation for the incredible and inspiring work they do bringing joy to the lives of so many other brave children.

The words that I tweeted today regarding this event are not meant to diminish how special today was. I simply wanted to urge that we, as a City, find similar amounts of love, compassion and empathy for children living every day in dire circumstances who, in the vast majority of cases, will not be supported or even recognized by our society.

I salute and send much love to Miles the BatKid and his family and call on those who supported him to also think about taking the Snap Challenge with me as a way of gaining a greater understanding of how it feels to go hungry in one of the richest cities in the world. If even a fraction of those who took action on behalf of the BatKid today take concrete steps to eradicating hunger in San Francisco, that will also be something we can all be proud of.

Supervisor Eric Mar

Gone are the days when one could enliven their Sunday mornings by watching Julia Child and Jacques Pepin affectionately debate the proper way to scramble eggs or divulge their secrets to whole chicken perfection. Enter Hungry, YouTube's new food channel that, it seems, signals a shift away from network food television by offering viewers "culinary competitions, food pranks, and unique gastronomic dining experiences" (e.g., high caloric freak show food items.)

The new channel, set to go live on July 2, has already herded such star-powered names, like bro cake decorator Duff Goldman and dude chef Chris Cosentino, the latter of whom will focus on pig products, ranging from pork belly, ham, loins, ribs, cracklins, feet, and bacon. They will also air EpicMealTime, one of YouTube's most popular food shows, noteworthy for creating extremely high-calorie meals, usually out of meat products. It also features women with prominent breasts and duck faces. (Look no further than Epic Breakfast Egg Rolls for more harrowing detail.) According to NY Daily News, multimedia studio Electus, creators of Hungry, swiped food TV producer Bruce Seidel away from the Food Network where he helped create such shows as the addictive Iron Chef America and the Next Food Network Star, the show responsible for thrusting Guy Fieri on an unsuspecting and helpless audience.'

Here's a teaser for the new newtork called "Hungry Sizzle Rap" by the Fung Bros. It's no Betty's Kitchen, but what is? Enjoy.

After Kellogg's foolishly dropped gold medal Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps' endorsement contract -- if you recall, he was caught taking a hit of mary jane earlier this year -- <s>the lanky sports star</s> the company decided to donate "two tons of Frosted Flakes and Corn Flakes with the gold medal winner on the box" to local food banks, according to NBC Bay Area. Kellogg's loss is hungry San Francisco's gain. A San Francisco Food Bank spokesperson Gayle Keck told what's-his-name, "We do regularly see products with packages that are no longer desirable ...
An anonymous reader writes SFist with the following urgent request.

Do you or one of your writers know how to apply to get for food stamps? Might make a good post.

Funny enough, your editor was juuuust wondering the same thing the other day after purchasing a $4 bottle of kombucha tea. But in all seriousness, there's this. And this.

But can you, informed readers, help out this hungry reader with more details? Maybe tell us the easiest way to go about getting food stamps? Or tell us your story about obtaining them? Any other info on services and goods on the cheap c/o the government would be welcome too. (Unfortunately, most of you might need this information at some point this year.)

Glide Memorial Church Gives Away Groceries to the Needy, Cold

Hundreds of people waited in the freezing cold and rain last night to get free bag of groceries this morning.
