We've watched Meet Me in St. Louis every Christmas Eve for the past million years. Perhaps an obvious choice, but nonetheless, Judy Garland's heart-wrenching version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas reduces us to sobs and snotty tissues every year. Not to mention the look on Tootie's face as she listens to her sister's melancholic words of comfort. What are some of your favorite Christmas scenes? Not just the stuff that makes you cry.......

They're here - the shiny, rectangular all-access passes to your favorite indie-rock festival, Noise Pop. According to their press release, these badges will "...grant access to all general admission Noise Pop shows, film screenings, happy hours and other happenings during the festival." Yes. We want one. Don't delay; Noise Pop is offering a ticket to one of two already sold out Magnetic Fields shows with the purchase of the Noise Pop Badge. Apparently this show......

Feel that? Why, those are your heart stings being tugged care of us and this cool little guy over here on the right. (Who like totally did not just make us completely tear up right now, so shut up!) Before we launch a few gift giveaways, why not take a moment to donate some money and/or effort to something worthy? Like giving people food, for example. No gift is too small and every bit......

Chucky appears to be back on the homeless beat this week with two stories about it. One is something that might piss people off, the other something that might not piss people off. We'll start with the one that might piss people off one first so we can cheer everyone up at the end with the one that won’t piss people off and make the post heart-warming, just in time for the holidays. ...

-- Crime in Choir: CIC rocks it. Hard. For reals. Big time. One of the purest sounds coming out of SF these days, really. Brave the chill and head down to Potrero Hill to check them out. You won't regret it. Pink Mountain and Science of Yarba open at this anniversary party for Frenetic Records. The music starts at 10 p.m. at Bottom of the Hill; $10. -- It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine:......

As the last night of Hanukkah approaches, we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on this past week's Jewy events and provide a few tidbits of what we shiksas have learned from this year's celebration. 1. Hanukkah has multiple spellings: Hanukkah, Hanukka, Chanuka, and Chanukah. 2. It's important to double check (using a calendar, not a person) which is the actual first night of Hanukkah. We accidentally lit our first candles on Monday,......

If you haven't made it to the Curiosity Shoppe yet, what are you waiting for? It's one of our new favorite shops on Valencia Street. After having an e-commerce site for a year we were thrilled to hear that owners Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom were setting up a brick and mortar spot in our fair city. Not only do we adore the choice of products for sale in the shop, we're big fans......

Our sister site, Gothamist, snapped up this image of the perfect dinner idea for all of you interfaith couples out there who don't know how to celebrate the first night of Chanukah together. We got a jump start on the minor Jewish holiday with a plate full of corned-beef and cabbage last night. (And we're not even chosen ones!) If we had only known that the rules of kosher dining were now so flexible,......

Why, what a delightful holiday refreshment table shot. Found in our Flickr page, and taken at some festive party this weekend, it has all of the staples of an imminent San Francisco gathering: hummus (thank you for remembering the olive oil drizzle!); simple crudité orbiting a coffee mug used to hold, ugh, dip (a most vile word for such a critical item); wine; chives used to accent; whimsically out-of-season platter holding the baked goods;......

We were trolling around on the Interweb the other day and caught notice of this banner ad, which immediately depressed us, given that: 1) Somebody at MUNI thought that monthly passes make an awesome Christmas gift and 2) That person paid money for these banner ads, money that was probably just sitting there in the "spend money on stupid crap" folder that MUNI obviously keeps in the office, right next to the reception desk......

Each Tuesday we will feature new music that should (or whatever) be on your radar. Standouts: This week is worst than last week. Really though, there's nothing (except the Original Cast Recording of Lovemusik). Even on the Amoeba Records website, they only have two, we repeat, two records on their list. With the holidays approaching, one would think that there would be an avalanche of CDs being released but again, there's only a few. Please......

Growing up west of (the) 5 freeway, the heavy metal sound fo the '80s escaped us. But while vacationing in the far off land of Riverside County during the holidays as a wee tyke, we would listen to our cousins' heavy metal tapes with envy and detached amusement. This was one of the songs we enjoyed most, Quiet Riot's "Cum on Feel the Noize." Sadly, their lead signer, Kevin Dubrow, 52, was found dead......

In Los Angeles, LAist most definitely celebrated Thanksgiving like no other. After all, one has to keep up all the energy to keep on walking the line at the Writers Strike and fighting the unfortunate return of the wildfires in Malibu, which single handedly destroyed over fifty homes within the first 24 hours. National outlets may be covering the fires, but CNN also found it is easier to buy a gun than fruit and......

Speaking of ILM, their Halloween party boasted one of the best costume ideas we've seen in eons. Behold, Ikeabots! So, for those of you who still think it's nifty to dress up as a sexy devil/cat, pirate, or Frank Chu, take note at these boss creations. This is how a Halloween costume is done. (Auto-start footage of the Ikeabots after the jump. If you're reading this in an RSS feeder, please click-thru. Alas.)......

After a bit of a hiatus, our Muni Security Guy returns with a primer on how Muni Security Guys become Muni Security Guys. We'd also like to let everyone know that our Muni Driver has taken a bit of a break and hopefully will return soon. But if there are any other Muni Drivers (or anyone who does anything Muni-like) out there who'd like to take a plunge, let us know-- we'd love to have you....

Now that there will be no city sanctioned Halloween debauchery in the Castro, Civic Center, or anywhere else, it'll be exciting to see the police state that's sure to erupt come 10/31. Even though, as Wyatt Buchanan reports in the Chronicle, "officials are still trying to prevent any festivities in the Castro" and that "Bevan Dufty sent a letter to 110 owners of bars, restaurants and stores in the Castro, asking them to close shop......

The Chronicle called Ed Jew's office today, and his legislative aide Barbara Meskunas said he wasn't in because he was sleeping. Jet lag, you know. According to the Chron, Tapioca Ed, did, however, have the time to pen an essay for the Sunset Beacon (which has not yet put Jew's essay online, but you can read last month's), in which he says he wants to "clear the air" about the allegations. In the essay, he......

All across the Ist-A-Verse (or at least the American parts thereof), writers and editors are in the midst of enjoying their three-day weekend. But after the week we've all had, we feel like the break is not only needed, but deserved. Just look at everything we've been doing! Gothamist headed into the Memorial Day weekend with a number of tasks accomplished. They worried about Long Islanders giving New Yorkers a bad name. They tried......

We know this is very Martha Stewart of us and we'll admit maybe we were a little brain washed on our recent Jet Blue flight, where we got to watch hours of Martha on direct TV (and how excited are we that Jet Blue will be flying out of SFO starting May 3rd? SO excited), but holidays are a great excuse for some crafty activity. So pull out the ugly wicker baskets and peeps. Truth be told we were never huge fans of oversized chocolate bunnies, but we're coveting these faux ones from Jek in the Box, looks like there are only a few left in her Etsy shop, but these would also be really fun to try and make. ...

Yeah, we know, technically Passover has nothing to do with Moses receiving the Ten Commandments (that's Shavuot), but it's sort of related. We just think it's a good enough excuse to bust out one of our favorite Mel Brooks routines.......

As if we don't have enough wars going on, the first shots were fired in yet another war, that being the War on Easter. Five years ago, at the behest of a Jewish resident, Walnut Creek decided to take the Easter out of Easter and replace it with spring. So the Easter Bunny became the Spring Bunny, Easter Egg Hung the Spring Egg Hunt and so on and so forth. This was no big deal until somebody wrote into a newspaper complaining about it. And somewhere out there, Baby Jesus started crying. ...

Warriors, baby, we need to talk. With Monday night's double kiss off -- a demoralizing loss to the Nuggets in Denver and the news that Baron Davis is going under the knife -- our relationship in on the rocks. Again. Sigh.
As such, we find ourselves on the horns of a dilemma. Should we shoulder the slings and arrows of the last month and give you one last chance to make it up to us with a playoff berth, or should we go ahead and change the locks on this season?
