We made much about Philip Glass turning 70, and not of a single peep when John Adams turned 60 this past February. Aw. We feel bad, since the contemporary composer lives in Berkeley, and he is ours, so to speak. (Gothamist can claim Glass. If they want.) Actually, back then, Adams conducted the SF Symphony in the US premiere of his Flowering Tree to celebrate his big six-oh.Sadly, we were out of town, then. But......

Happy Birthday local auteur! It's year 63 for George Lucas, posing at right with ... what the hell? Is that supposed to be Yoda? Eesh. Anyway, as you can imagine, George's campus in the presidio, aka Naboo, is in a festive uproar today, with giant lumbering beasts, cheering crowds, ducks, and the handing off of a big swirly gazing ball to a drooling bipedal frog. We've watched George's career with great interest, and wish......

Tonight we're wishing a great big Happy 4th Birthday to DJ Ted and his baby BAGeL Radio. The party is at Bottom of the Hill with performances by Birdmonster, Division Day and Two Seconds, and yes there will be cupcakes! The show is 18+ and only $10, but for those of you who aren't in the city tonight you can still listen in to the party performances thanks to the fine folks at Lala.com.......

Happy BIRTHDAY, dear Gavin.... Happy birthday to you! Yesterday was the big 39 for the head executive officer of the city and county of San Francisco -- so what better way to celebrate than with a surprise party in City Hall, featuring singer Thelma Houston from Theater Zinzanni? Answer: with a red boa (pictures of red boa after the jump). Beats last year's birthday, which ended with a catfight. Gosh, 39 candles are a......

Londonist prepares a Happy Birthday bath for Buddah this week and then things get all cliched. A madman goes on a rampage while axe-wiedling and London's mayor warns an American diplomat to avoid the kitchen if the heat bothers him so much. LAist has finally come around to purchasing tickets for Clipper Train. Hyper local dating sites are spamming L.A. neighborhoods and the fascinating Dame Darcy talks with LAist about art, the city and earthquakes.......

Ian over at WULAD must have smoked some Ombuds before deconstructing some political graffiti. Dinah Sanders explains her votes in the election -- before a new TV campaign from Herr Governator can get to her. In a mood to protest, but not to get off the couch? The UK brings us two technologies to let folks tele-protest via SMS. Ever had a domain hijacked? The guy who forged documents to steal sex.com from a......

Yesterday was the birthday of the legendary jazz bassist Ray Brown, who passed away three years ago. As a tribute, Yoshi's has gathered a handfull of Ray's former protegés/stellar performers to celebrate (and a few SFist readers in the audience, needless to say). Yesterday's early show was particularly moving, as Ray's widow Cecilia was in the audience and went up on stage while the band was singing "Happy Birthday." Ray Brown's picture on the side......

Some links to peruse over your hump-day coffee. SF Mike does Mahler, Michael Tilson Thomas stizz. Well, at least the Giants finished ahead of the Dodgers. Beat LA, bitches! Doctor Hal is back, and he's still answering your most vexing questions. Prepared for a disaster? The cats on Potrero are. We need more housing -- thankfully, developers have us covered. But is this the end of the bubble? Movable Type turns four! Happy Birthday!......

For one glorious day in San Francisco, "Going skiing in the Marina" wasn't a euphemism on Craigslist. Serene blue skies and scorching summer weather made for fantastic conditions on the man-made run down Fillmore street from Broadway to Green. Of course, we were late, as it took us an hour and a half to make it from Market and 4th (we're blaming the cuts in Muni service -- we haven't been on time to......

Through June 5th, the San Francisco International Arts Festival will present fantastic art from around the world. Events will be held across The City. Our spy at Project Artaud Theater tells us: "The Akhe group flown in from Russia sounds crazy: the techs have been complaining about whiskey and a big mess on the stage." Sounds like our kind of modern dance performance! Their "White Cabin" show is 4:30pm this afternoon, 7pm tomorrow, and......
