The Haight Street Underworld

Flickr photographer Andertho captured this shot of an alley off Haight Street, which provoked quite a bit of HDR love-"haight" in the comments. Well, we love it.

This year, the Street Fair in trouble is the Haight Street Fair. The reason why it's in trouble is for the usual reasons-- too much drunkeness with a debate on booths thrown in for good measure. Not mentioned, however, were those magic medicinal brownies SFist once bought that made little leprechauns dance around our heads while singing Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax." The Interdepartmental Staff Committee on Traffic and Transportation recently put a permit that was requested by fair organizers on hold for two weeks so they can figure out what to do.

When we are at a loss for scintillating entertainment options here at SFist, we often turn to the inimitable SF Station, which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a free shindig tonight at Mighty (119 Utah St. at 15th). Festivities include a smattering of DJs, live bands, including Sean Hayes and Felonius, visuals by Stephen Williams, and outdoor movies from local filmmakers and organizations courtesy of teacherwiththebus.com. RSVP is strongly encouraged, plus bring a coat to donate to One Warm Coat. (10pm - 3am)

You know that juicy rumor that in place of the late, not-so-lamented Cala Foods, Whole Foods would open up there until a new store with condos on top could be built? And you know how people were going "yay!" as among other things, it would mean having something at the end of Haight besides what is now pretty much an empty lot? Well, ain't happening.

Ruining your good mood for the rest of the week.
