Is Jerry Going to Kill Off Redevelopment to Save Education?

Is Jerry Going to Kill Off Redevelopment to Save Education?

No doubt, Jerry Brown's got big problems to work out in Sacramento to deal with the state's $28 billion dollar deficit. But word on the street is that he's contemplating ending redevelopment, the economic and property development engine that's played a huge role in revitalizing California cities over the last several decades. As the Mercury News reports, Governor Brown may be making an announcement as early as Monday that he'll be raiding redevelopment in order to cover shortfalls in education budgets statewide, something that is sure to be putting many real estate industry professionals and city employees on edge. About $5.5 billion in annual property tax revenue is currently diverted to redevelopment, and this promise of annual funding is used to issue bonds to fund construction projects. more ›

Meg and Jerry Duke it Out at Final Gubernatorial Debate

Meg and Jerry Duke it Out at Final Gubernatorial Debate

We might not have gotten that radio debate last week, but it sounds like the boxing match at the final gubernatorial debate in San Rafael last night made for better visuals anyway. According to Bay City News, reporting on the Appeal, Meg and Jerry danced around each other as they tossed out "less-than-memorable one-liners." Among those one-liners were Whitman's desire to "bring that California dream alive," which Jerry seemed to infer she only intended to do for her wealthy friends. more ›

Brown Still Has Plenty of Money Left in Campaign Coffers; Whitman, Not So Much

According to new campaign finance reports, Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman is swiftly running out of money, while Jerry Brown still has plenty with which to run attack ads between now and November 2nd. Per the Chron: "Whitman, the former CEO of eBay, had spent more than $140 million on her campaign as of Sept. 30, compared with Brown's $10.8 million... [that leaves Brown] with $22.6 million left in the bank, compared with $9.2 million for Whitman." Meg is sure going to be pissed/sad if she loses, having dumped $119 million of her own cash into this. more ›

Brown Already Calling Whitman a Nazi

Brown Already Calling Whitman a Nazi

"It's like Joseph Goebbels. Goebbels invented this kind of propaganda. He took control of the whole world. She wants to be president. That's her ambition, the first woman president. That's what this is all about." — Jerry Brown in some off-hand remarks about gubernatorial rival Meg Whitman to reporter Doug Sovern. Suffice it to say we are popping the popcorn and looking forward to a fuuuuun summer. [KCBS] more ›

Meg Whitman Dumps $20 Million More Into Her Quest for the Governor's Office

Meg Whitman Dumps $20 Million More Into Her Quest for the Governor's Office

Blowhard bully mama and bad citizen Meg Whitman announced today that she's dumping 20 million more of her hard earned American dollars into her run for Governor of the Great State of California. This brings her campaign fund total up to a not-so-shabby $39 million. This is potentially bad news for her competitor for the Republican nomination, Poison Steve Poizner, as his campaign is basically in the poor house with a mere $19 million in funds and a major lag in the polls. A third Republican, Tom Campbell, dropped out of the race last week to run for U.S. Senate, citing Whitman's piles of cash as a major contributing factor in his decision. more ›
