Ron Paul Glitter Bombed In Minneapolis

As the only GOP presidential candidate without a glitter bombing to his name, Ron Paul probably should have seen the sparkling shower coming by now. As CityPages reports this morning, the Texas Congressman was caught off-guard Monday night when an activist by the name of "Charlie McAwesome" launched a colorful flurry upon the Texas Congressman after a campaign rally in downtown Minneapolis. more ›

Mitt Romney Glitter Bombed By Gay Rights Activist

Mitt Romney Glitter Bombed By Gay Rights Activist

An unidentified gay rights activist glitter bombed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney today during a campaign rally in Eagan, Minnesota. As Mitt took the stage at a warehouse bash, the activist tossed a cup of joyous glitter on the former Massachusetts governor. "The glitter poured over his hair, stuck to his face and shimmered from his navy blazer," breathlessly reports The Washington Post. For those not in the know, glitter bombing is a spectacular tactic used by gay rights and same-sex marriage advocates against LGBT foes. A few notable glitter victims? Karl Rove, Michele Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty, Newt Gingrich, and Dan Savage. more ›

Former Godfathers' Pizza CEO Leads GOP President Poll

Former Godfathers' Pizza CEO Leads GOP President Poll

In a surprise twist, Herman Cain leads other GOPs in a recently published Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll. Cain, a former Godfather's Pizza CEO, scored 4 points ahead of deplorable frontrunner candidate Mitt Romney. Part of Cain's surge in popularity could be due to his spectacular(ly stupid) "999" tax plan. more ›

Video: GOP Boos Gay Soldier at Presidential Debate

Video: GOP Boos Gay Soldier at Presidential Debate

During last night's GOP debate, it was difficult to watch the Google logo stand next to evil, so unintentionally in contrast with its corporate logo. Case in point: Rick Santorum expressing his opinion on the defeated "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. More disturbing than Santorum's inaccurate screed ("What we're doing is playing social experimentation with—with our military right now. And that's tragic.") was the fact that the audience loudly booed an active, and homosexual, serviceman for asking about it. more ›

Michele Bachmann Signs Racist Pledge Declaring Black Children Were Better Off Slaves

Avowed racist Rep. Michele Bachmann, the GOP presidential candidate, signed an anti-Christian conservative pledge last week stating that among other things, according to the Telegraph, "African American children were more likely to grow up in stable families during the era of slavery than under President Barack Obama." One of countless Americans still furious over having a black man in the Oval Office, Bachmann, along with fellow candidate Rick Santorum, approved and agreed with the following statement. more ›

Jerry Brown Won't Reach Budget Deal On Time

Jerry Brown Won't Reach Budget Deal On Time

Much to no one's surprise, Governor Jerry Brown admitted this morning that he might not reach a budget deal by Thursday, "his self-imposed 60-day deadline," even though floor votes in the Legislature are expected this week. Why? Well, according to Sacto Bee, the GOP has been threatening lawmakers. Brown allegedly fears "some Republicans who might be willing to support putting tax extensions on the ballot have been threatened with reprisals from within the GOP." [Sacto Bee] more ›

Leland Yee's Racist, Homophobic Messages from Sarah Palin Zealots

Leland Yee's Racist, Homophobic Messages from Sarah Palin Zealots

Though touched upon in yesterday's Day Around the Bay, we thought we'd share it with you in a separate post since it's a peek inside the heart of the former VP candidate cum proverbial whore for the blind far-right, Sarah Palin, and some of her not-so-merry band of Tea Party members. See, after daring to raise questions about a questionable speaking engagement by Palin scheduled for June at California State University Stanislaus, Senator Leland Yee, according to KTVU, "says he has received death threats in recent days, along with racist hate messages about President Obama and homophobic hate messages, apparently because he represents San Francisco." more ›

SF 'Tea Party' Protest Pics

             + 1 more

While not every rally in San Francisco is newsworthy, Thursday's 'tea day' tax filing day protest in Union Square was unique due to its heavy right-wing tint. (Other than anti-abortion rallies and lynchings, the far right doesn't come close to the sky high number of progressive public outcries.) more ›

Meghan McCain Urges NY State GOP To Support Gay Marriage

Meghan McCain Urges NY State GOP To Support Gay Marriage

Meghan McCain, daughter of the Senator and P.O.W. presidential candidate John McCain, wrote an opinion piece in the Daily News today. What it is is this: an open letter to New York Republicans, asking them to support the state's gay marriage legislation, "[n]o matter how politically charged the discussions about marriage equality may get, the question is really a simple one: Do the rights and privileges we offer citizens include everyone in our country, or only some of us? I believe that allowing gays and lesbians the freedom to marry is an idea whose time has come... Equality under the law and personal freedoms are what make America the greatest country in the world, and they are core values that I hold as a Republican." In addition to being all kinds of awesome, McCain is one of the few Republican women who know exactly how to do the whole bottle blond thing. Kudos to you, Meghan. Let's hope the GOP is listening. more ›

Senator Specter Shocks GOP By Becoming Democrat

Senator Specter Shocks GOP By Becoming Democrat

Senator Arlen Specter, the 29-year Senate veteran from Pennsylvania, announced today that he was changing his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat. In a statement, he said, "Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans." One motivating reason: Specter is lagging behind a challenger in the Republican primary. President Obama told Specter, "You have my full support. [We're] thrilled to have you," and now the Democrats have a near-filibuster-proof majority—they'll have it, if Al Franken is ever seated in Minnesota. The GOP, reportedly caught off-guard, is calling an emergency meeting. SFGate points out that Specter's "legacy as former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee was seating [the] two conservative Supreme Court justices...Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito." more ›

ALL OF THEM: Market And Van Ness

When asked what newspapers and magazines she reads, Sarah Palin replied, "all of them." All of them! And so, a meme is born. -- mattymatt, "Sarah Palin Engages in Perverse Journalistic Orgy of Excess"

How could we forget such a vapid, transparently-evasive comment?

We can't. We shan't. So let's go. more ›
