Speaking of republicans, here's Mayor Gavin Newom posing with Bush disaster #1 and some golfers at yesterday's Presidents Cup. Some sort of golf humor is going on here, but... it's completely lost on those of us who don't relish the joy that is golf.

Where the hell is 19th and Sloat? Oh, it's in, like, Southie. Near the Golf Course District. Anyway, the intersection is getting a left-turn arrow, hooray! Nineteenth is an insanely deadly stretch. A young lady died at this particular intersection a month ago; meanwhile, negotiations between the MTA and Caltrans to improve the intersection languished in their SEVENTH .

In all the marches in of the cities in all the world, a march to City Hall is taking place today for one of the most noble causes in San Francisco to date. 100 or so golfers will be marching to the Board of Supervisors meeting to demand their voices be heard on the topic of shutting down public courses in the city.

For all of the rhetoric surrounding San Francisco as some sort of liberal mecca, one has to remember that we are the first city on the left coast, and not in a political way. In fact, there is a long and storied tradition of anglo classism and exclusivity. After all, civilization is a white man's game, especially when it comes to sports, and what better sport to represent this than golf.
