According to Eater, the highly anticipated cafe at Stow Lake is set to open on Thursday. What kind of food will they serve? Well, on the cafe's site, they reveal: "Our menu is filled with healthy and fresh housemade items. Radiohead, Tom Petty, Jack Johnson, and You

What with all of the media attention this summertime concert has received as of late, you would assume Miley Cyrus (the Madeleine Elster/Judy Barton narrative of our time) was booked to "sing" at Golden Gate Park. Alas, she is not. more ›

Early Morning Bonfire Revelers at Ocean Beach Find Dead Body

A group of people having a bonfire at Ocean Beach early this morning--in this weather?--came across the body of a dead man, which they found above the high tide line across from the Beach Chalet and Golden Gate Park. Of average height with no identification or clothes, "U.S. Park Police are investigating the death, but have few leads." more ›

Here Comes the Rain Again

Here Comes the Rain Again

While not on par with Christmas Day tsunamis, this storm is pretty nifty, huh? Golden Gate transit buses have stopped, power has been knocked out to hundreds -- yes, hundreds! - of thousands of people, and surely snow is falling really hard atop a mountain somewhere. more ›

Muni's Guide to the Weekend: Alleged "Celebration"

Muni's Guide to the Weekend: Alleged "Celebration"

Did you know that the "North of Market Holiday Celebration" is coming up? Neither did we! And neither did the rest of the internet, because there's no mention of the (possibly-fictitious) event anywhere else online. What could it possibly be? We simply couldn't find any information or imagery related to the damn thing; and that's why we decided to run this totally-unrelated picture from a few weeks ago. more ›

SFist Photo: Segway Traffic Jam in the Marina

SFist Photo: Segway Traffic Jam in the Marina

This was the scene the other day on everybody's favorite piece of landfill, San Francisco's Marina District. Larger version here Of course SUPER-visor Chris Daly took action to keep Segways off of our sidewalks about a half decade ago, but our law doesn't appear to stop folks from just driving around in bike lanes. (It doesn't seem to stop people from riding on sidewalks either, but oh well.) Anyway, you'll be seeing these things in... more ›

The Entree Is Dead; Long Live the Hors D'oeuvre

The Entree Is Dead; Long Live the Hors D'oeuvre

Three square meals a day is finished. Heartiness plunged to its death from the Golden Gate Bridge. The entree, sadly, is dead. At least according Kim Severson of the New York Times it is, and we couldn't be more delighted. The article interviews chef Tom Colicchio who says, "I think the entree has been in trouble for a long time...[e]ating an entree is too many bites of one thing, and it’s boring." more ›

Behold the Proposed Presidio Museum You Might Visit Once or Twice

Behold the Proposed Presidio Museum You Might Visit Once or Twice

We love the idea of turning the Presidio into a destination. After all, it's a gorgeous place. Ridiculously beautiful parts of the Presidio make Golden Gate Park look downright crummy. And what with the new landscaping, it's sure to become the tourist destination it so richly deserves. more ›

Truck Man Saves the Day

Truck Man Saves the Day

By day he's an Alight Electric employee. By night? A Ford F-350 Super Duty hero. It seems that last night on the Golden Gate Bridge, John Beatty of Mill Valley saved the day, so to speak, after noticing a woman unconscious in her Jeep, moving into oncoming traffic. At around 6:50 p.m., Sylvia Durrance, 62, came to a stop while driving southbound in the No. 2 lane. She appeared lifeless, her body slumped over... more ›

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday: Migden vs. Leno Rematch

The airtight smiles. Awesome. For those of you somehow not tempted into becoming a part of Van Santian art -- or, you know, if you sport a vagina -- might we suggest catching round II of the Leno vs. Migden smackdown? Sponsored by the Harvey Milk Club, this meeting is sure to ruffle a few plumes and have local politicos affectedly scratching their chins for days to come. That's right, kids, it's on. It is... more ›

Oil Spill Damage Is, Well, Damaging

Oil Spill Damage Is, Well, Damaging

Oh man, are you kidding? This is terrible. Not to get all tugging-the-heart strings today, but this spill is much worse than initially reported yesterday. This oil covered bird above was found at Fort Baker cove in Sausalito today. It seems that the Marin Headlands are getting crazy sloshed with oil on their shores. (The aerial shots of the spill on SFGate are jaw-dropping.) A Golden Gate National Recreation Area ranger claims that the... more ›

Unidentified Women On Horseback In Golden Gate Park, October 29, 1934 San Francisco Public Library Historical Photograph Collection We’re all for citizenship and all—we would even consider ourselves to be citizenship geeks.
