Ross Mirkarimi (seen here going into the dunk tank) is giving the keynote address, and the delegates plan to debate issues like ranked-choice voting, lowering the voting age to 17, and immigration. They may also get to issues about global warming. The convention starts at 11:30 a.m., goes through the Memorial Day weekend and is mostly at the State Building at 455 Golden Gate (x Larkin), though if you make it through all the sessions, they're doing a hike in Muir Woods on Monday. The University of Michigan's Transportation Research Institute has just published a study on the effectiveness of a new method to reduce greenhouse gas emission in California . The film itself is about four minutes' worth of the best part of a horror film -- when the monsters attack and the sexy young humans die horribly. In this case, the monsters are thawed possums, and the sexy young humans gamely shriek and burst and run away, pursued by a predictably question-marky The End. It's all the sort of splattery fun you'd expect from the title; nothing more, nothing less. Actually, a little bit less: the film STRICTLY FORBIDS scrubbing, so no fast-forward or rewind. We haven't had that much rain and there's been all this worry about their not being enough water for our reservoirs and Tahoe's economy and dear God, it's the beginning of the global warming end! So San Francisco's Department of the Environment-- you know we had one didn't you?-- has come out with their plans to make this city go green. Or more like cutting down on those nasty, nasty greenhouse gases so we can cut emissions to pre-1990 levels.
