MTV Remote Control' Host Ken Ober, Dead

Brace yourselves, Gen Xers. Ken Ober, host of MTV's beloved Remote Control, was found dead at his home in Los Angeles.

Spring is when we get busy here in the Ist-A-Verse. Very busy. But, after staying bundled-up indoors all winter, it's nice for us to be out, about, and collecting things to write about for you. Here's a glimpse at what's been keeping your favorite citybloggers busily away from home and out of bed.

Once again, little ole SFist is going to be on ABC 7 during their 6 o'clock broadcast. Somehow, they think our whiny, silly post about Gary Delagnes criticizing Gen X is worthy of a story. Don't watch it to see us or some professor try to pontificate on generational differences (badly, we might admit) but watch it because Delagnes not only clarifies his remarks but goes on to discuss just why it is that we have trouble putting more cops on the street. Considering how relevant the issue is, not just with handling crime but in emergency preparedness, it just might be worth a looksee.

Courtesy of the Bay Guardian's politics blog, we get the latest word from Chris Daly's second favorite organization, the Police Officer's Association. In an online posting to fellow Police Officers, Union President Gary Delagnes discussed the reasons why it's been difficult these past few years recruiting new cops. He lists a bunch of the usual reasons: the coast of living in SF, the occasional danger involved in the job, unappealing working conditions, but then finds the ultimate culprit for the lack of new recruits: Gen X sucks.
