Suspect(s) Sought In Intentional Richmond District Hit-Run Attack
A former Marine and current Cal Fire firefighter who was intentionally hit by a car at the Shell gas station parking lot at Geary Boulevard on Thanksgiving morning remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Prior to the attack, and in classic trashed trash mode, the two got into a fight at a Jack in the Box at 11th Avenue and Geary Boulevard on Thursday, according to police.
SUV Hits Pedestrian, Temporarily Shuts Down Geary Boulevard
Eastbound Geary Boulevard between 9th and 11th Avenues closed temporarily this morning after a vehicle-pedestrian collision. According to SF Appeal, "a 70 year old male was struck by a Toyota SUV at 10th Avenue and Geary at 7:56 AM. The victim was transported to SF General, and the driver, who stopped after the accident, remained at the scene."
Body Found at Geary and Gough
According to reports, traffic on Geary at Gough and Franklin moves sluggish this morning after a dead body near St. Mary's Cathedral. SF Appeal notes: "Police responded to the area at 7:40, after a passer-by reported seeing a body. According to KTVU broadcast, police say they have recovered a gun from the scene, and say that the deceased person did not appear to be homeless."
Marijuana Mugging Outside S.F. Dispensary
Over on the 900 block of Geary Street, around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a man was robbed of over a pound of medical marijuana while leaving a dispensary. (Presumably The Divinity Tree at 958 Geary.) "The victim, a 34-year-old man, was walking out of the dispensary when a suspect pointed a gun at his face and demanded 'weed,' " reports SF Appeal. "The victim handed over a satchel that contained 1.25 pounds of medical marijuana and cash."
San Francisco's Other Target Store Coming to Masonic and Geary
While fans of Method soap and Paul Frank bedding patiently await the arrival of San Francisco's first Target store, still slated to open in the Metreon sometime in the fall of 2012, the San Francisco Planning Commission has approved a permit to build another location of the discount retailer in the largely deserted City Center shopping complex at Geary and Masonic.
Man Attacked with Hammer After Home Invasion Robbery
A robbery on the 3400 block of Geary Boulevard turned exceptionally grim this morning after a man was brutally beaten with a hammer during the home invasion. "Two suspects broke down the front door of the home and began to take items. One of the suspects encountered the 45-year-old victim and demanded money from him," reports KTVU. "The victim began to struggle with the intruders and was hit in the head and knees several times with a hammer." The victim, now in stable condition, was treated at SF General.
Audi Driver Arrested for Red Light-Running Death on Geary Boulevard
At around 2:15 a.m. this morning, a 31-year-old man driving an Audi A4 ran a red light on Geary at Arguello, slamming into a car and killing the driver. "The suspect suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken into custody," reports SFGate. "Police did not immediately cite the grounds on which he was arrested."
UCSF Shuttle Bus Kills Pedestrian
On Wednesday at Geary and Leavenworth, a UCSF shuttle bus hit and killed a 65-year-old woman crossing the street. "The 12:27 p.m. accident occurred as the bus was headed north on Leavenworth and turned left onto Geary, hitting the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene," reports the Chronicle. "Police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said the victim, whose identity was not released, was crossing Geary heading south on Leavenworth at the time of the accident."
Community Meeting to Yell About Proposed Target
The greatest thing that will ever happen to San Francisco, Target, will have a community meeting held in its esteemed honor on Wednesday, July 21. The Facebook invite chirps, "Target is definitely interested in taking over the old abandoned Mervyn's space in the desolate plaza at Geary and Masonic. But what does this mean for traffic, pedestrians, and bikes? How will it affect the plans to Fix Masonic?" Traffic, pedestrians, and bikes? Deal with it, mow 'em down, and make 'em drive cars. Kid Fell From Moving 38 Geary Bus Yesterday?
According to SF Appeal, via ABC7, a middle-schooler fell out of a moving 38 Geary bus yesterday at around 8:40 a.m. near Jordan Avenue. The boy is between 11 and 13 years old, is reportedly a Roosevelt Middle School student, and was sent to the hospital, but there is no word yet on his condition or any details from Muni.
Truck Fire at 25th and Geary Fulton
About an hour ago this morning, Aileen Tat snapped this shot of a truck blaze at 25th and Geary Fulton. We're not sure if this is the work of the carsonist -- which we doubt since the recent spat of car fires take place in the dark of morning -- but we'll update as soon as we know more.

Geary Center Bus Lanes Deemed the Way to Go
The San Francisco County Transportation Authority issued a new report concluding that two dedicated bus lanes running down the center of Geary Boulevard (also known as bus rapid transit or BRT) would be the most efficient and cost-effective solution for decongesting the thoroughfare. The BRT would eliminate bus and auto conflicts by physically separating the BRT lanes from mixed-traffic lanes, pedestrian safety would be improved, and bicycle and pedestrian access would be enhanced.
UPDATE: Westbound Lanes of the Masonic Tunnel Closed Temporarily

Oh, Look, a Government Agency that Actually Does a Pretty Smart Job of Spending Our Money
It's going to be a far busier-than-normal meeting of the SF County Transportation Authority tomorrow. There's huge stuff on the agenda: updates on the bike plan; millions of dollars being thrown around for the Transbay Terminal; $160,000 for reducing graffiti on street signs; potential changes for Geneva Ave and McAllister Street, including a possible permanent re-route of the 5-Fulton; safety upgrades at 9th and Irving; and some forward momentum for restoring mass transit on Geary to pre-WWII levels. Whew!
