Dear SF Cabs:
We snapped the above photo at everyone's favorite traffic mess - the Arco station on Fell and Divisadero. The sign on the fence reminded me of photos we'd seen of gas shortages back before we were sentient, but happily for drivers, this isn't the harbinger of shortages or rationing. The station will soon finish with their repair work, and people will once again be able to fill their H2s for $.02/gallon less than at the station across the street! Sadly, that means the traffic mess will return - today was the first time in a very long time that we'd gone up the Fell Street bike lane without having to dodge out into traffic to avoid a car blocking the lane or the sidewalk.
We're a tenth of a penny away from $5 a gallon for REGULAR gas, y'all. Very exciting.
Wow. We hope we're this feisty, and wildly insane, when we're sixty-four.
A "significant amount" of spilled into the San Francisco Bay after a tugboat collided with a refinery pipeline last night at Tesoro Petroleum's Golden Eagle Refinery in Martinez. Reports claim that "it wasn't know how much gasoline spilled into the bay, but a Coast Guard spokesman says it's 'a large amount.'"
Perfect for celebrating Earth Day, Citizen Sugar is offering one lucky winner $500 in gas relief. ("Gas relief." Har.) All you have to do is register and take a brief quiz (e.g., "how much does it cost to fill up a 2008 Hummer 2 [H2]?"), and then you'll be be entered in lottery. And if you win, you'll can temporarily stop whining about the price of gas these days.
In order to prevent witnessing further gas station signage hilarity, MapQuest (remember them?) has a nifty cheap station location feature. Basically, it maps out gas stations in your neighborhood/city by price. In San Francisco there's a scant difference between the highest and lowest ranked stations. Whatever. But SFist readers way out in Whereverville -- i.e., cities where automotive discussions aren't whispered in hushed tones -- might appreciate the service. Especially if money is tight...
Seeing as how we don't drive an automobile in San Francisco because people in the Bay Area drive like crap because we want to keep the planet minty green, we don't feel the pinch as much as others do. About what, you ask? Well, gas prices, it seems, are going through the roof! (The only thing that concerns us about gasoline is its odor, which we love.) But before you get all "like, ride...
