As promised -- when we find people defending Newsom, we diligently write 'em up in the column we call.... Who's Defending Newsom Now! Who's swinging for the mayor? --The mayor himself!: Before heading out to Switzerland this week, Gavin sat down with the gay-focused Bay Area Reporter (picture features a blue tie) for a chat about what's going on with him. Beyond the now-standard complaint that the Chronicle is out to get him, Gavin also......

We apologize for being so late on this-- SFist attended that big Gavin meeting this morning and didn't get a chance to post earlier this morning. We'll review the Gavin meeting later but for now, here's the news... -Gavin wants to put the foot patrol issue on the ballot. We have a bad feeling about this.. -Meet the new owners of the armory. -Budget analyst is not a big fan of the Governator's big ideas.......

How much does Gavin not like all those foot patrol resolutions the Board of Supes keep throwing at him? Not very much. So much so he vetoed it again. This resolution was an add-on to the previous legislation that would have added Central and Richmond station districts to areas already covered by the new foot patrol legislation. And yes, this veto came on a late Friday afternoon, the traditional dump-off of stuff everyone knows is politically bad. Like your chief of staff leaving. We see him signing this thing while unbuttoning his blue tie to rush out the door for some more drunken make-out sessions with Jennifer. ...

It's a slight variation on our Who's Attacking/Defending Newsom Now columns -- Gavin goes on the offensive! The gay-focused Bay Area Reporter runs a column this week in their Political Notebook about the post-Halloween fallout between Gavin and new father District 8 Supervisor Bevan Dufty. Apparently the wounds from Gavin's attack on Bevan about the Castro Halloween shooting and his vote to override the veto on the foot patrol issue are still smarting, as......

Ques-tion TIME! Ques-tion TIME! Gavin Newsom sees your "immature" comment and raises, Board of Supervisors! Now the mayor's announced that his first non-Question Time "community panel" will be in Jake McGoldrick's District 1 on Saturday Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. at the Richmond Recreation Center, 251 18th Ave. Save the date! (oh, don't worry about writing it down -- we'll be reminding you.) The problem is, though, Newsom didn't bother to check with Supervisor......

Hey, did you know today is Mayor Gavin Christopher Newsom Day in Manila? And we're celebrating by running another installment of our column: Who's Attacking Newsom Now! We ordinarily run this column along with its sister column, Who's Defending Newsom Now!, but -- well, it's looking kind of bleak on the Defending side this week, except for the spiffy Gavin Newsom 2008 thong to your right. We think that's for president, since the mayoral election......

We stole this column idea from Stephen Colbert -- but goodness, a lot of people are attacking Newsom these days, aren't they? Here's today's list! (The Guardian's keeping a list too.) Ross Mirkarimi!: Ross says that Gavin has been "hoisted by his own petard," in response to mayoral minder Peter Ragone's statements that Mirkarimi is only pushing the foot patrol issue so he (Ross) can run for mayor against Newsom. Ross said the Newsom......

Today, your San Francisco Board of Supervisors take up legislation both big and small. First up is a possible override of Gavin's veto of the foot patrol legislation. The board needs eight votes to override Mayor McDreamy's veto, one short of the seven they got when they passed the bill. Right now, it's not looking like it'll happen. Luke Thomas reports in Fog City that two of the seven have been flipped. The two who......

Last week's winner, the SF Weekly. Hey, they're looking for people who want to write short features about life in the city that call out suckas for Sucka Free City. Dude, if you want to write short features about life in the city that call out suckas in the city, write for SFist! Matt Smith on SF voting machines. Are you an apologist for San Francisco values? Pipsqueak-a-go-go. Cover article: Corporation buys up low-income housing......

After vetoing Mirkarimi's foot patrol proposal on Friday, Gavin Newsom skipped on over to the Red Tie Gala at Neiman-Marcus, to benefit St. Anne's Home for the elderly poor in the Lake District, run by the Little Sisters of the Poor. Hope those Sisters don't need foot patrols! And sad news for young Brittanie Mountz -- Gavin's got a new plus-one on his arm. Our source identifies her as actress Jennifer Siebel. According to......

The old political shibboleth about releasing unpopular news on the afternoon of "take out the trash" Friday holds true again, as Gavin Newsom sneaks in a veto on Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi's well-received proposal requiring police foot patrols of San Francisco neighborhoods, after originally saying he would let it pass. Ross isn't too pleased about this (his commentary was described as "withering" in the paper). Read this with your own mellifluous basso imitation-Ross voice! The mayor......
