Because we're always cheated out of a proper summer -- for whatever reason, this year's summer chill seems particularly glacial -- that means low fog. And what does low fog mean? It means flight delays at SFO. According to BCN (via SF Appeal), "Flight delays of up to an hour are possible at San Francisco International Airport into the afternoon today due to low fog in the area." Please make a note of it. A UC Berkeley study released earlier this week has found that a gradual decrease in fog over the last one hundred years could put redwood trees in danger and make summers warmer and longer. Researchers, however, are not concluding that this is global warming yet. ““The change could be natural," explained Todd Dawson, one of the two researchers, to the Orange County Register. more ›

It's not your imagination, friends. That impenetrable marine layer and frustrating fog have, in fact, been a little worse than average according to Examiner.com today: "San Francisco's average high temperature for June, July and August was 67.0 degrees, almost a degree and a half below the 30-year normal of 68.4 degrees. Over the course of the three-month (92 day) summer period the daily temperature was only above normal on 21 occasions." So, that means we've had three weeks worth of warm days scattered throughout, but still we're coming up short. Like some experts have said, global warming is going to turn SF into Seattle.
