Stop8.org founder Matt Baume will organize a big flashmob video shoot this Sunday to record a message of hope for LGBT kids stuck out in the sticks with no one to turn to. Also, for teens who have to hear time again that being gay isn't normal or natural. (Psst, it is. Trust us.) What's it for? Well, it's for Dan Savage's new project, "It Gets Better," which is all about reaching out to those young people and reminding them that there's a whole big wide world out there beyond their small-minded communities and self-loathing pricks.

See, in Minnesota and Indiana recently, a pair of 15-year-old boys committed suicide as a direct result of anti-gay bullying. Savage, after reading what happened, tipped his hat to Harvey Milk, who famously said, "You gotta give 'em hope," and hopes folks will also create videos for the project, "sharing messages of optimism about their own adult lives as open, proud queer people."

Dan writes, "Schools and churches don't bring us in to talk to teenagers who are being bullied. Many of these kids have homophobic parents who believe that they can prevent their gay children from growing up to be gay -- or from ever coming out -- by depriving them of information, resources, and positive role models. Why are we waiting for permission to talk to these kids? We have the ability to talk directly to them right now. We don't have to wait for permission to let them know that it gets better. We can reach these kids."

No Pants Subway Ride, Jan. 10

On Saturday January 10, San Franciscans will be asked to drop their pants for the 8th Annual No Pants!
On Saturday January 10, San Franciscans will be asked to drop their pants for the 8th Annual No Pants!
