Beatropolis: Oh joy! Beatropolis has returned! (Not that they really went anywhere, but it always feels like forever when they're not around.) Anyway, Beatropolis' special brand of dance rock, live drum 'n' bass, and futuristic space pop will have you up until the wee hours of the morning. The Toy Soldiers (a heady nu-electrorawk mix of Flaming Lips, Justin Timberlake, and Hot Chip) and the Buttercream Gang (a local indie/post-punk/afro-beat band) also perform starting......

There are no less than three fantastic music festivals all taking place over the weekend of September 14-16. What gives? And how do we choose? Since we live in the bay area, perhaps our decision has been made for us: we're heading to the inaugural Treasure Island Music Festival presented by the fine folks at Noise Pop and Another Planet. The two day festival features 14 bands each day on two stages with mostly hip......

When compiling my "Year in Review" in my head, I thought, "Hey, I do get out of the house sometimes!" This year was a year of firsts for me. I saw some awe-inspiring bands, took some fun Bay Area trips, and became a regular at some tasty restaurants....

We've posted on the most excellent BAGel Radio a lot -- their music supervisor, Ted Leibowitz is our unofficial SFist DJ, and his BAGel Radio Live Broadcast is what gets us out of bed on Friday mornings (but you can listen to them 24-7, so tune in now!). So, get this: Ted, and his partner, Misty, went to the Flaming Lips show in Berkeley last Saturday, and got invited to dance on stage the entire......

sfbg330.jpgLast week's winner, the Bay Guardian. A list issue! We love lists. Coverage of the Battlecry dueling rallies last week. Annalee shares some blogger feelings. Johnny Ray Huston also thinks villainy's name is Stephen on Top Chef! The club reviewer preemptively mocks himself. Book section. A review of the Whitney Biennial by SFist Katie. And -- oh, SFBG! Win preview tickets to Brick by doing a word search? Come on, let's go rebus! Nothing beats the little cartoon eye, a heart, and a picture of a female sheep. Next up, the Metro: Circus protestors at the HP Pavilion. (n.b.: your correspondent represents these protestors at the day job, but had nothing to do with getting the article in the Metro, we swear. It was pretty funny when our client ran up to us yesterday and gave us a copy of the Metro, which we were already stressing out about picking up.) Soccer is cool. The Fly on the guy who wants to buy the Merc News. Cover article: giant squid! This article is like Moby Dick, only with squids, in California, and without the guy named Starbuck. Thin-crust pizza in SJ. An article on Edvard Munch. Aaaaaaaah! Todd Inoue's second SXSW roundup -- hey, he stopped by Austinist's secret Flaming Lips show! And SFist Eve's horoscope: 6714 is NOT your lucky number. After the jump, the SF Weekly, the EBX, and the pick of the week....

We're wishing Noise Pop a happy birthday today, as San Francisco's indie-est music festival kicks off its 14th year. The all-festival badges are sold out, as are tickets to some of the biggest shows, but SFist will bring you our coverage so you can live vicariously. Check the festival schedule for all the shows, and stay tuned for SFist's show reviews and what we're hoping is going to turn out to one Noise Pop giveaway......

Our concert picks for the week of 7/7-7/13. Dear readers, we're just itching to give away some free stuff. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson have a new comedy coming out called Wedding Crashers. You might have seen the trailer already, but you can star in the trailer here. (We're not kidding -- upload your photo and watch!) We've got an indie-tastic Wedding Crashers soundtrack to give away, including songs from Bloc Party, Flaming Lips, Spoon,......

Sure, there are new releases this week by Britney, Eminem and Shania, but what love have they ever shown to San Francisco? "Talkin' in the Mission / Over coffee, this is my utopia," sings Vanessa Carlton on "Harmonium," her second full length album. That might sound like a normal morning to us, but we'll allow the young songstress her love affair with our fair city. Partly recorded here and produced by resident rocker Stephan Jenkins,......
