Recently spotted on BART was this track bike with an ersatz disc rear wheel. Mismatched wheels have long been a staple of fixie style, particularly when one of the wheels is an expensive piece of racing hardware (extra points for juxtaposing the expensive and the cheap). Yet this track star thumbs his nose at the prevailing convention, choosing not a $500 racing disc wheel, but electing instead to cover a regular wheel with paper......

It’s a classic example of fixie bike lust: the carefully accented color coordination, expensive but mismatched wheels, improbably narrow handlebars, and, of course, lack of any unsightly “extras” such as gears and brakes. But wait...is that a basket we see? We love – and love to hate – those slim fixie kids. In our fair city -- and, apparently, in every other city and town on the globe (our friend just back from Budapest......

Just passing along the latest news on Roisin Isner, the 17-year-old drummer hit by a firecracker in Dolores Park on July 4. The 17-year-old boy the SFPD arrested has been released by the juvenile court to home detention, but remains a person of interest in the case. They have videotape footage confirming that he was on the scene, and he admitted to anarchist activity and to throwing firecrackers in the park and in a phone......

We still have no idea what exactly a "fixie" bike is (and at this point, we think we're having a better time imagining what one looks like than just walking out to Ritual Coffee and seeing one for ourselves), but we know they're destroying San Francisco bike culture -- just like Matier and Ross! The boys follow up their sensationalistic "Critical Mass attacks children" article from earlier this week to relate the tale of......

Guess who got endorsed on the cover by last week's winner, the Bay Guardian? Where's the green beads, Chris? Letters about fixie bikes, and Tim Redmond notes that Renee Saucedo shouldn't have endorsed Prop 90 (the overbroad eminent domain one). Dan Noyes, gadfly. Also endorsed by the Guardian: Phil Angelides, Jerry Brown, Leland Yee, Barbara Lee, and Krissy Keefer. And Steven T. Jones had nothing at all to do with their endorsement of Alix Rosenthal.......

Last week's winner, the Guardian. The SF People's Organization is having a meeting this Saturday. Letters about guns in the Castro. Everything is better with strippers -- union woes, men against women, and a no-fatties proposal at the Lusty Lady. Hating on fixie bikes -- and big ups to SFist Sarah L for pointing out to us how awesomely combative the comments in response have gotten (typical comment: "My god man, do you have an......
