The Bay Street Emeryville mall was the scene of a large-scale teenage donnybrook starting late Sunday afternoon and lasting well into the evening, with a gunshot fired, and one juvenile stabbed and hospitalized.

There was big time unrest at the Bay Street mall in Emeryville Sunday afternoon, as one large disturbance at around 4:30 in the afternoon begat multiple large brawls involving hundreds of teens, according to the Bay Area News Group. A gunshot was fired just before 6 p.m., and one teen was stabbed sometime before 7 p.m., in a series of large fights that kept reprising for a few hours. Some TikTok video from one teen on the scene has been posted online.

This may all sound familiar to East Bay residents. The same Bay Street shopping center saw massive teen brawls on two consecutive weekends in September 2020. And just like in those brawls, Sunday’s rough-and-tumble required Emeryville police to call in Oakland and Berkeley police to help quell the uprisings.

Per an Emeryville Police Department report, the four hours of mall melees started when they received a 4:30 p.m. call regarding “50 young adults inside [a] store causing a disturbance.” KTVU’s Betty Yu adds that “the call to congregate was put out on social media.” While police cleared that store pretty quickly, the troubles were only just beginning.

“At about 5:15 p.m., while patrolling the area, officers observed that another group of about 100 young adults arrived at the [mall],” the police report continues. “Over the next 30 minutes, an additional 100-150 more young adults showed up at the mall.  At about 5:40 pm, the first of several fights were reported near the courtyard area of the mall.”

One teen eyewitness told KTVU it was "people going around pepper-spraying people. There was, like, people throwing chairs." Police say a single gunshot was heard just before 6 p.m., but identified no victims or suspects in that incident.

But KTVU’s full report notes that one juvenile was stabbed, as police discovered around 7 p.m. That individual was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

NBC Bay Area notes that one juvenile was arrested, though the charges were not announced. That station also adds that the mall’s movie theater had to be evacuated as the situation escalated over the evening. But according to police reports,  “By 8:30 p.m., most of the crowds had left the area.”

Raiders fans are not a typically quiet bunch, and today we can add one more criticism to the list: terrible karate moves. Video from Sunday's home game against the Falcons shows what has to be one of the most interesting fights to grace the Coliseum in years.

Two men, both wearing Raiders jerseys, face off in the video. In it, one stands in a calm and unthreatening manner, while the other squats and moves his arms as if he's attempting to channel his inner warrior. After the significantly shorter of the two knocks the sunglasses off the calm man's face, he retracts into his crouched pose — perhaps waiting for a retaliatory strike.

And retaliate the aggrieved and shade-less man does — with a quick left-swing followed by a right. A bystander throws himself into the mix, and sucker-punches the dazed karate enthusiast, who quickly collapses on the stairs.

"He deserved it," says someone near by.

It should, of course, be noted that sports fan-on-fan violence is a very serious thing and should be treated as such — a fact we're sure the aspiring karate master is now pondering while holding an ice pack to his head.

If he's not in jail, that is.

Money certainly cannot buy class. This much we already knew, but video depicting an apparently drunk California man being thrown off a Jet Blue plane last Friday really drives the point home. According to ABC 7, the flight was from Long Beach to Sacramento, and the plane was still on the runway when things got heated.

The man in the video, identified by the Daily Mail as David Brackett, proceeds to let loose a torrent of nonsense, including bragging about how smart and rich he is.

"You're a fucking idiot," he tells another passenger. "I have a 176 IQ," he adds before calling the passenger "Mr. Bald" who "can't grow a set of hair" (whatever that means). "I'm 28, I make $4 million a year — what do you do?" (He later says he's 27, so his exact age is unclear.) He then proceeds to brag about his six homes.

The Daily Mail suggests that Brackett is the vice president of a California real estate and mortgage company. The video, filmed by fellow passenger Sara Bear, was posted to an airline steward Facebook page and has since gone viral. Brackett, after being taken off the plane, and presumably sobering up, issued an apology and blamed the 10 minute long outburst on PTSD.

“I’m not blaming anybody but myself for the actions that I did," CBS 2 reports him as saying. "The PTSD thing that I do have, it’s the first time where I’ve had to do something that I regret." The channel notes that Brackett claims to have developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from a motorcycle crash.

While on the plane, Brackett also took the time to brag about his superb eyesight. "I've got 20/20 vision," he excitedly told his fellow passengers. He also threatened to sue the passenger filming the incident.

Two other passengers were also thrown off the plane — one of whom threatened to assault Brackett. As soon as Brackett was escorted off, the other passengers cheered.

Like Uber, but for street fights. What could possibly go wrong? Supposed brawling app Rumblr billed itself as "an app for recreational fighters to find, meet, and fight other brawl enthusiasts nearby" and several news outlets eagerly jumped on the story of the insane sounding Tinder-for-face-punches supposedly coming to a smartphone near you. There's just one problem — the entire thing is a hoax.

The premise of the app — that two strangers looking to mix it up could swap insults before scheduling a convenient time and place to smash heads — seems absurd. Well, to most of us, anyway. In an email interview with the Daily Mail, the purported developers of Rumblr bullshitted their app in perfect disrupt-ese.

"We've been recreational fighters our entire lives and were tired of the inefficiencies that exist when trying to find someone to fight," wrote Matt Henderson and Jack Kim. "Rumblr alleviates the trouble fighters have when searching for suitable opponents."

It is perhaps a sad comment on the current state of affairs when all anyone has to do to be taken seriously as an app developer is spout off nonspecific language about reducing inefficiencies.

Even Venture Beat, which bills itself as "the leading source for news, events, groundbreaking research and perspective on technology innovation" bought the story.

So if the Rumblr app is (so obviously) fake, then what is actually going on? If you guessed viral marketing ploy, you'd be correct.

Yesterday morning, the day Rumblr was supposed to go live, new creative-consulting agency van Hughes claimed responsibility for the prank.

"Rumblr started as a portfolio project to help us launch our creative consulting agency, von Hughes," reads the press release. "We saw it as an opportunity to show the world our ability to produce a brand and market a product, and that’s what we did."

Noting the surprisingly large interest in an app whose sole purpose is to facilitate hurting strangers, the founders of van Hughes wrote they hoped that energy could be directed elsewhere.

"We understand that some of you were genuinely looking forward to using an app like Rumblr, and we’re sorry to disappoint. However, if you still are truly wishing to release some built-up angst, consider fighting more pressing issues such as gang violence, domestic abuse, and at-risk youth culture."

As to the news outlets that so eagerly reported Rumblr's rise? I have an app to sell you.

Early Monday morning, a fight between two gentlemen in the Mission District escalated into a stabbing scenario.

SF Appeal notes: "Around 1:15 a.m., a 20-year-old man and a 30-year-old man got into a fight at 3131 16th St., which is between Valencia and Guerrero streets, during which the younger man pulled out a knife and stabbed his opponent."

The victim was whisked to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The suspect, who initially fled the scene by car, was later arrested by the fuzz. His name has yet to be released.

Oh, good lord. Guy Fieri got into full-blown fisticuffs with his hairdresser, Ariel Ramirez, at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday. In this video, obtained by TMZ, a hysterical and weeping Ramirez can be seen punching Guy through the open door of an SUV, screaming "you're a fucking dick head" and "fuck you" the entire time before being dragged away. For his part, the diminutive celebrity chef can be seen kicking him and then shutting the door.

In Fieri's defense, this really is the scariest hair on TV. Perhaps Guy finally caught a glimpse of it in a mirror? Anyway.

Sources close to TMZ say the duo had been drinking the entire flight, and that the altercation was "just dudes being dudes." A rep for Guy went on to explain, "A bunch of guys were messing around. Things got a little out of hand, but they're all good now."

The bro-down occurred days before Guy had to appear in court this week. As you may recall, Fieri briefly testified on Monday that Max Wade, the then 17-year-old accused of stealing his sweet ride back in 2012, did not have his permission to take his $200,000 yellow Lamborghini for a joyride across the Golden Gate Bridge.

It didn't take long for things to go south when the Roseville Galleria outside of Sacramento opened the floodgates to throngs of punchy Black Friday shoppers last week. After the doors opened at midnight to what must have some unbelievably good deals, several brutal fights broke out in front of a Gamestop store. Of course, one savvy shopper was there to capture the whole thing for YouTube:

Amateur videographer Lawrence Corpus, who must have spent previous Black Fridays at home watching holiday movies like a sane person, told a local CBS affiliate that the brawl was the last thing he expected to see on the biggest shopping day of the year. "It could have easily become a riot," Corpus explained.

The brawl apparently started when one man flung a trash can lid at another man "like a flying saucer," another witness recounted. Police believe the brawl was over a pair of tennis shoes. Adding to the holiday cheer, two other women can be seen trading blows at the beginning of the footage, before two men start attacking a victim near "the jumpy thing" in the middle of the concourse.

The fighting and "intensity" reportedly lasted for fifteen minutes before security showed up. According to CBS13 Sacramento, no one was arrested for the punch-up because everyone bailed before police arrived. Call us silly, but we are intrigued by the Marina Louboutin Skullcrusher. Who is she? What's her deal? And what's with that delightfully mischevious glint in her eye? So bad. And yet so right. She's the Girl With a Pearl Earring of our time. And with that, we bring you news that police have identified her. We don't know her name yet, but according to Grub Street, authorities are in contact with MLS. What's more, she might be claiming that, after allegedly attacking Jasper's Corner Tap manager Matt Meidinger with the heel of her Louboutin, she did it in defense of her husband.

Grub Street reports:

An anonymous informant relays the story, allegedly via the suspect's sister, saying that she "she and her friends were accosted first and she was trying to get the man to stop punching her husband in the face." Meanwhile, the unnamed woman, who allegedly tried to bludgeon Jasper's Corner Tap manager Matt Meidinger with a pair of Louboutin heels after he suggested they weren't that important, has sparked the ire of the internet far and wide, and the story's been picked up by the British press.

God bless the British press.

According to Meidinger, however, the stealth stiellito attack was sparked by an accidentally kicking of her shoe. The Daily Mail notes:

A passerby accidentally 'bumped' one of the shoes with his foot, Mr Meidinger wrote, and as he turned to apologi[z]e the woman shouted at him and punched him in the face.

He wrote: 'I spoke up and said, "Whoa! Take it easy! Kicking a shoe doesn't equal a punch in the face, Louboutins or not!"

The incident occurred at the Balboa Cafe, in the Marina District. Meidinger offered a $500 reward for her capture. Meanwhile, our poll yesterday, asking "Who Does S.F. Hate More: Marina Louboutin Skullcrusher vs. Castro Pedestrian Killer," is neck and neck, with Skullcrusher beating Pedestrian Killer by less than a 1% margin.

Today in combative Muni riders, the Appeal brings to our attention a fight on the 8X Bayshore Express bus captured by local reporter/ad hoc videographer Dan McMenamin of Bay City News. McMenamin told the Appeal, the fight broke out after the girl decided she didn't like the man singing loudly and exited the bus with her friends. When the man dumped water some liquid on the girl, she "came back on the bus from another door then sprayed the guy with mace...he stumbles around as his pants start falling down. The International Boxing Association has banned the Oakland Police Department from future fights in the "Badge vs. Badge" police boxing series pending an investigation of the causes of an audience brawl Friday night at a Sacramento match.

As KTVU reports, the fight involved several off-duty Oakland police officers and broke out in the audience attending the policemen-only match. Though allegedly no punches were thrown, the audience fight featured pushing, shoving, and chair-throwing.

Friday's starring match at the Sacramento Radisson was between an Oakland police officer and a state prison guard. The audience fracas apparently broke out after someone started trash-talking the OPD. Moral: Don't be dissing the OPD. [KTVU]
