According to the Fresno Bee, the two men (ages 63 and 45) at a house party soon received gunshot leg wounds after the SF fan went nuts and started shooting.

[Fresno County sheriff's Sgt. Kevin Lolkus] said the suspect, Amado Vargas, 39, was described as a "new" 49ers fan and was being taunted by people in the house. From there it escalated, Lolkus said, to him threatening people with a knife, which was wrestled away in a struggle.

Vargas allegedly charged into a room that had a gun safe, took out a handgun and fired multiple shots, with two hitting the victims, Lolkus said. The suspect then fled in a black car with family members.

Vargas was later arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The shooting occurred around 7 p.m., shortly after the 49ers lost the NFC Game Championship.

The cops cited football and alcohol as a mitigating factor, among other things.

Understanding why Dodgers fans are deplorable is a no-brainer. Giants fans, rightfully so, treat them like their creepy second cousin on the sex offenders registry. Every family has one, but no one wants to have him over for dinner. What about Seattle Seahawk fans, though? Why, seemingly all of the sudden, are they so bad? And why has this comparatively nascent rivalry turned so ugly?

To find out more, SFist asked our 49ers columnist Daisy Barringer to tell us more. Of the rivalry, she explains:

I don't actually believe there was a rivalry until recently, but it's almost as if by hating the 49ers, the Seahawks fans are legitimating themselves. Their team has barely ever mattered and now they're good, but historically, we are better which drives them bananas, even though they scoff any time we bring up our five rings. Mostly though, any time you get two teams in the same division who are good and live close enough that there are going to be transplants from both cities living in the other, you're going to get some good strong fan hatred.

As for her own opinions about Seattle fans, she leaves little room for ambiguity:

Personally I can't stand them because they run their mouths off, but don't have much to back it up. They won the NFC West this year, sure, but we went to the Super Bowl last year. They're also very quick to insult our actual city and they insist on calling Kaepernick a thug, despite the fact that he is pretty much the opposite. Also, they just get butt-hurt super easily, like over the Dre Beats commercial, for example.

Mostly, I think they're just defensive, but also too cocky for what they've achieved. Right now they are literally my LEAST favorite fan base in the entire NFL and that's saying a lot.

Or, maybe it's the fact that Starbucks honors Seahawks fans with 12 cent coffees Friday.
As we reported today, Jonathan Denver, 24, was fatally stabbed near Third and Harrison in SoMa just after Wednesday's game. The Giants released the following statement in the wake of his death.

We were deeply saddened to learn of last night's horrific incident that occurred several blocks from the ballpark and resulted in the tragic death of 24-year old Jonathan Denver. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

While details are still emerging, we want to be clear that there is absolutely no place in our community for this type of senseless violence.

The Giants are working with the San Francisco Police Department to step up enforcement in and around the ballpark tonight and throughout the rest of this final home stand. We will also observe a moment of silence in memory of Mr. Denver before tonight's game.

The Chronicle has more about the events leading up to last night's stabbing death.

The trouble started as Denver and the other Dodgers fans left the bar and encountered the suspects, at least one of whom was wearing a Giants cap, Suhr said. The two groups exchanged words about the Giants-Dodgers rivalry, and the back and forth "deteriorated into a fight," the chief said.

The fight broke up, but a few minutes later the two groups crossed paths again, Suhr said. More fighting broke out, and Denver was stabbed.

As SFist's 49ers reporter Daisy Barringer can attest, violence at Candlestick Park is an increasingly dangerous problem.

In addition to Barringer's assault, which you can read all about here, a 40-year-old Niners fan suffered a concussion as well as a broken arm and nose at the Stick on Sunday.

SFGate has more:

The assault on the man — who police originally identified as a 15-year-old boy, but later corrected to 40-year-old man — happened early on in the game. Police say a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of beating the man for allegedly urinating in his car.

An unidentified man in his 30s fell to his death from an elevated walkway just outside Candlestick Park on Sunday during the Niners-Packers game.

According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified man "appeared intoxicated when he fell just after kickoff at about 1:30 p.m." Although medics tried to give him first aid until an ambulance arrived, he died shortly after the fall.

The 49ers issued a statement saying: "The San Francisco 49ers learned that there was a fatal accident outside of Candlestick Park prior to today'€™s game. We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time."

The fan's Identification is being held until his family notification. We'll update as soon as we know more.

Update: Kevin Hayes, 32, of Hayward, has been ID'd as the man who fell to his death, according to SF Examiner.

In a statement issued Monday morning, the Giants mea culpa'd:

We were extremely disappointed to learn about the incident involving Adam Jones at AT&T Park yesterday. The Giants have a zero tolerance policy against this type of behavior, which results in immediate ejection from the ballpark. While we have been investigating the matter since we learned of the situation, unfortunately we have been unable to identify the person responsible. We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Adam and the entire Orioles organization for this unfortunate incident. The inappropriate actions of this individual in no way reflect the values of our organization and our fans.

After Baltimore swept the series, Jones tweeted about the incident, saying, "I want to thank whatever slapdick threw that banana towards my direction in CF in the last inning. Way to show ur class u jackass."

Ne later found temporary solace in a plate of delicious tamales.

UPDATE: In a dramatic twist, someone has stepped forward claiming to be the banana-tosser. Longtime fan Alexander Poulides, 42, talked to Mercury News, saying that he threw the banana, yes; but he threw the peel in disgust at the Giants, not Jones or the color of his skin. "Oh, my god,'' Poulides tells Mercury News. "I threw a banana on my way out."

Poulides reportedly "grabbed a banana off a catering cart and hurled it toward the field in disgust at the Giants near the end of a 10-2 loss at AT&T Park on Sunday." The banana, according to Poulides, "sailed toward Jones," who in turn tweeted about it.

According to the Baltimore Sun, "Giants senior director of media relations Jim Moorehead said Sunday night that the Giants received no reports of any incident of anyone throwing an object onto the field in the bottom of the ninth inning, but added that the club will follow up Monday by reviewing the stadium's security cameras."

Hurling a banana at black players is nothing new, unfortunately. Wayne Simmonds of the Philadelphia Flyers fell victim to a similar taunt in 2011. And as ESPN reports, "In Europe, black soccer players have had to contend with bananas being thrown at them, although such displays largely have been eradicated from the game in western Europe. One high-profile instance came in Russia involving Brazilian star Roberto Carlos."

The Orioles beat the Giants last night (no surprise there) 10 - 2, capping off a series victory. They head to Arizona today.

The juiced slugger made his first appearance at AT& T Park with Toronto on Tuesday for the first time since receiving a 50-game suspension last August following a positive testosterone test.

"U gotta dig this balloon art that a fan made for me," beams Guy Fieri over a piece of art he received during an appearance at an Atlanta book store. And dig we do, Guy. Do you think Anthony Bourdain or America's Test Kitchen's Christopher Kimball get balloon art from (presumably) crazed fans?
Let's take a break from rivalry and fan violence to focus on the good the Dodgers do. Yeah, the good. During the Dodgers-Giants series at AT&T Park this past weekend, Matt Kemp lifted a young fan's spirits when he gave him a signed ball. And his jersey. And his shoes.

The kid's father was able to grab the attention of the Dodgers third-base coach Tim Wallach, who told Kemp about his young fan. Kemp rushed over and did something pretty damn extraordinary. Video uploader stayinghigh4209 describes the touching scene:

Matt Kemp is such a great person. He came over after the game and made one of my best friends night :) he's fighting a tough battle and this was such a great gift by Matt Kemp ! I'll never forget this.

Classy and touching. All around. Even the background guy in the Giants jacket agrees.
