Two Hayward brothers were arrested today after getting into an alcohol-induced fight with each other. Being brothers who fight, one of them employed the use of creative weaponry — specifically, a weed-whacker. (I bet it was the younger one. The younger one, speaking from experience, always goes in for the kill using the most creative yet dastardly force.)

Bay Area News Group/Oakland Tribune has more:

Officers were called at 12:06 a.m. to the 200 block of Cooper Way after a woman called 911 to report her children were fighting, said Sgt. Mark Ormsby.

When police arrived at the home, just a few blocks south of Tennyson Park, they found two brothers outside the house on the curb, Ormsby said.

Phillip Roman Ramirez, 21, reportedly grabbed a weed whacker and had threatened his brother Thomas Garcia Ramirez, 24, during an argument, according to police.

In response, the older brother grabbed a knife and allegedly stabbed his sibling in the wrist.

See, it was the younger one! I knew it! We do crazy shit like that, us younger brothers of the world. (Flashback: When I was a wispy ten years of age, I once gently tossed ["violently hurled," according to mom] a TV set at my older brother in the middle of a nasty fight. Instead of hitting him in the head, like it was supposed to do, the TV went through our bedroom window. Everything smashed to bits. Shards of glass and plastic and antennae everywhere. Both of us grounded for life. Point being: I won. It was his TV.)

Anyway, Thomas was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, while Phillip <s>totally didn't do anything wrong, mom!</s> was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and a probation violation.

In a move that really should have happened sooner, Facebook will now let you block articles and content from individual sites that you'd just rather not see in your news feed anymore. It may very well save countless friendships that might otherwise be soured by an overload of Internet quiz results.

Blocking by site works exactly the same way as blocking your Tea Party cousin who shares all the chemtrail videos, except it puts a stop to everything coming from the specific site without actually unfriending them. That way you get to keep all the baby pictures and vacation photos, without all the bull.

Now that we've been blessed with this godsend from Menlo Park, you can ban whatever site you like the next time an offender pops up: just click the down arrow on the top-right of the post and click "Hide all from [Sitename]." Then sit back and enjoy the zen-like tranquility of your news feed.

Was your mom in Junior League? Did your dad have an affair with his secretary for years, which was known but never discussed? Did you grow up in a gated community? Then Alexander's Steakhouse is the place for you. Tablecloths. Expensive cuts of hardcore meat. Luxurious ambiance. Nothing freaky, nothing deaky. Mom will enjoy her third martini of the night (she's been through so much as it is) while you teach dad how to use Facebook on his T-Mobile Touch. — Brock Keeling
Family in town is a perfect excuse to revisit this San Francisco classic bar destination. Sure, it's cheesy and hotel-y, and we'd advise steering clear of the 100-martini menu and just ordering a simple highball, or similar, but the view seriously can't be beat. And Dad will love the story about the case full of booze to be shared by military personnel passing through. There are some simple bar snacks but they also do brunch on Sundays throughout the holidays. Day or night it's a great place to sit and look out on our relentlessly beautiful city, and let your family feel jealous that you live here. — Jay Barmann
Moms. They're fantastic. And they just want you to be safe. Take, for example, Ofelia Gomez of San Lorenzo, who camped out in front of the new Pink Dolphin store location on Haight Street for two nights so that her son, Christian Gonzalez, 16, could be first in line for the store's grand opening.

"We came Thursday night to see the scene and we have been here waiting since Friday morning at 8 am. I am here because my son loves the brand and I wanted him to be safe," Gomez told the store's PR ilk. She parked in front of the store so she could watch over her son while he kept his spot in line. She slept in the back seat during the night.

Your editor, who came across the massive line outside Pink Dolphin, spotted a queue the leaned heavily toward young teens and a mix of ethnicities. A refreshing change compared to the types who, no matter the wait, will line up for Sriracha ramen mole cupcakes or whatever the latest food trend is.

Anyway, the reason for the line was that Pink Dolphin — owned by Neima Khaila and Cena Barhaghi, who are from the Bay Area, and only 25 and 22, respectively — released a collection of limited edition hats, hoodies, shirts that were only available in store. Here are some pics of the scene and the store.

Terrible news today. One half of the iconic Brown twins died on Wednesday night. Vivian Brown passed in her sleep at an assisted care facility in the city. She was 85. According to the Chronicle, "Brown suffered from Alzheimer's disease, her twin, Marian Brown, told the Chronicle in August, when the pair were facing their first extended time apart in decades. Vivian Brown fell in July and was admitted into doctors' care, where she remained until her death."

Her sister, Marian, is obviously bereft as this was the person to whom she was closest her entire life. Neither of the sisters married and remained symbols of San Francisco via TV and commercial appearances. In August, Vivian was hospitalized, which prompted many fans to offer donations to the cash-strapped pair who relied on Social Security.

The sisters were born and raised in Michigan, where they attended graduated as co-valedictorians in 1945, giving the valedictory speech together. They even earned matching degrees in business education from Western Michigan University and left for San Francisco in 1970 where they both found work as secretaries at downtown businesses.

I can only hope that Marian makes it through this exceptionally tough time. On a personal note, I enjoyed seeing the pair around town, whether it be on the 30-Stocktoin (saw them twice on it!) or at Uncle Vito's Pizza. As one half of a twin myself, I know that the bond between twin siblings can be pretty intense and is always profound. Sad day, folks.

Feel free to share with us your Brown sisters encounter. Seems like they were the last local color of the female variety in this town.

Although initially confirmed by some local journalists as a "murder-suicide," Friday's quintuple murder at 16 Howth Street was allegedly the work of 35-year-old Binh Thai Luc. According to SF Appeal, "Homicide Inspectors arrested 35-year-old Binh Thai Luc...for the five homicides. In addition, they arrested his brother, 33-year-old Brian Luc for narcotics possession, a felon in possession of ammunition and for a probation violation. These brothers reside together in San Francisco."

Police are once again reassuring residents that the slayings were "specific to this residence." If you recall, a man was found near the entrance of the home (pictured here), "while a man and woman were found in the garage, another woman was found upstairs and a third woman was found downstairs."

SFist checked out the scene at 16 Howth on Sunday afternoon. Most of the entire block's residences were blocked off with police tape, while one television crew stood by waiting for something to happen. Cops at the scene weren't particularly helpful when we asked questions, answering our questions with, "We know as much as you do."

Learn How to Ride with, or While Pregnant with, Your Kids at SF Bike Coalition's Family Biking Classes

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition announced today their first-ever Family Biking Series,...

Arts & Entertainment

bikes

children

family

kids

public safety

Brock Keeling

The three courses will cover such topics as riding while pregnant when you should start pedaling with your baby, and how to teach your rugrats to bike to school.

"More and more San Francisco families are embracing bicycling as a smart and easy way to make raising a family in this city easier and more enjoyable," says Kit Hodge, Deputy Director of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, a mom, and one of the series’ teachers. "We're thrilled to be able to offer a family biking class program designed to help you spend more quality time with your children, get you around the city with less hassle and keep you looking great in your favorite pair of jeans."

One of Facebook's earliest employees, Randi Zuckerberg, sister of CEO Mark Zuckerberg, resigned from the social networking company. Randi "is leaving her position as director of marketing at the Palo Alto-based website after six years with the company," reports the Oakland Tribune.

Randi will leave the company to launch her own business, called RtoZMedia, "that will launch (her) own innovative programming and work with media companies to develop their programming in new and more social ways."

Like her brother, Randi also attended Harvard. She wrote Spark Your Career in Advertising and, prior to being a Facebook star, appeared as a panelist on Forbes on Fox. Most recently, though, she famously claimed that anonymity online "has to go away."

Kati Kim Speaks To '20/20' About Kim Family Tragedy

As many of you recall, four years ago in December of 2006, the nation was hanging onto every tragic detail related to the search for ...

SF News

family

James Kim

kati kim

TV

video

Leanne Maxwell

As many of you recall, four years ago in December of 2006, the nation was hanging onto every tragic detail related to the search for the Kims, a young San Francisco family of four who had disappeared in the deep and frigid mountains of Oregon.

A series of wrong turns and other heart-breaking twists of fate resulted in the death of James Kim, who, after several days of waiting in vain for rescuers to arrive, had left behind his family in search of help.

After a long recovery, Kati Kim recently spoke with 20/20 about her heart-breaking story. The show aired last night (thanks, tipster) and the full episode can be seen here. Read the transcript here.

Food criticism czar Michael Bauer has had it with rapscallions tossing his name to and fro -- especially when they don't actually know him and/or have blood ties. (And you know who you are, crafty freebie demons.) Recently, Bauer spoke with Tyler Florence about several examples that went down at one of his spoons

Bauer writes, "I got an email from Tyler Florence (we’ve never met), asking if I knew Jan Smith (I made up the name). He wrote: “Not sure if she’s a friend or trying to get a table. Funny… We’re getting ‘lots’ of friends of yours. I’m saying hi in a couple of minutes.”"

Tacky. Depressing. But wait, there's more: things get worse. Much worse. Bauer goes on to say, "Then I received a similar email from restaurant publicist Jared Rivera asking if Jennifer Jones (another made up name) was my niece. I told him she wasn’t, and asked for details."

And -- yikes -- the details are grim. These kinds of shenanigans, sadly, are de rigueur in the media business; frustrating as hell for both PR people and writers.

Adoptable Pets of Week: Maggie & Crocket

This cutie girl is a true mixed bag of doggie goodness - a little of this, a little of that - and here you go - an adorable, playful ready to rock redhead. Tomorrow morning's feature is How to Train Your Dragon. The movie auditorium's lights are brought up and the sound turned down, families are welcome to bring their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie.
