Earlier this month, Natural Resources, which has been providing quality gear, clothing, classes, and support to San Francisco parents for the past 25 years, reached out to its customers for some help, announcing they were in danger of going out of business. Their campaign to raise $45,000, which ends this Monday, has been quite successful, and they're only $5,418 from reaching their goal.

SFist This Weekend: Treasure Island Flea, Free Folk Festival, Jazz Mafia at Stern Grove, Noe Valley Summerfest
You would think that the Pride Weekend extravaganza festivities (not to mention the Michael Jackson flash mob) would be enough of a clusterfrack for the city, but why not go ahead and add countless other fun-sounding events to the mix? Fun traffic and Muni times ahead, for sure. We'll keep it brief so as not to make your head explode. Enjoy!
Scary Moments in the Bay During Father's Day
Due to the refreshingly gorgeous weather we're having -- from the windows outside SFist headquarters on busy Third Street, it seems that many of you took the day off; it's practically barren outside! -- many folks took to boating in the Bay over the weekend. One incident in particular resulted in a family's boat being capsized. You see, during a Father's Day cruise in the water on Sunday, a father and his two kids had to be "rescued 500 yards south of Ballena Bay in Alameda when their 19-foot aluminum boat capsized before 11:40 a.m."
Residents Rejoice as Families Flee San Francisco
Census numbers show that San Francisco families are fleeing the city for other bays. Why? Well, for starters, larger houses, roomier backyards, and more affordability. As soon as wee ones leave the stroller stage, it seems, parents decide to ditch the city. And while the younger, more jaded San Franciscan might think that's just swell -- really, who wants to see a stroller at their favorite bar? -- this flight is not good for a thriving metropolis.

SF Rec and Park Summer Camp Registration Starts Tomorrow
Parents of school-aged children best be getting their fingers warmed up for the big summer camp registration over at SF Rec and Park, which starts tomorrow at 10 a.m. The camps run from May 31 - August 12, 2011. We were going to make this post really helpful in terms of navigating their rather labyrinthian website, but we can't figure it out either. Any pros have tips?
SFist Attends: Tricycle Music Fest West
The rain didn't stop dozens of families from swarming the library on Sunday afternoon for the fabulous 2nd Annual Tricycle Music Fest West grand finale show. The show, which was originally scheduled to take place in Civic Center Plaza in conjunction with Sunday Streets, was relocated to the library's Koret Auditorium due to the inclement weather.

We received a heads-up about another great blog, Cry It Out, by SF stay-at-home dad Mike Adamick, who was also featured on Eye on Blogs the other day. Mike's a high-profile writer -- take a look at his impressive credentials. Which leads us to the question regarding busy parents, which we've been asking ourselves a lot these days, how does the housework get done? Keep the links/tips coming in!
The Baby-ry Coast
Last week we waxed poetic about how great growing up in the Bay Area must be, much in part due to the strong sense of community here, as well as the huge amount of cultural activities and city parks.
SF to Use Federal Funds to Provide 1,000 Jobs for Unemployed Parents for One Year
Yesterday, Mayor Newsom's office announced a new initiative called JOBS NOW!, which aims to fund jobs using federal stimulus money for 1,000 San Francisco residents who have at least one child and earn less than twice the federal poverty level, which equals about $37,000 a year for a family of three or $44,000 for a family of four. The $25 million worth of federal funds will subsidize the successful candidates' salaries at jobs provided by the local government, private businesses, and nonprofits through September of 2010. Employers will be responsible for the workers' Social Security and other payroll taxes.
Brave ABC Affiliate Protects Los Angeles from Televised Homosexual Menace
Remember the other day, we told you about a bunch of new TV ads about how gay families can actually be pleasant and likable? Well, you'll be glad to hear that the spots aired all over California during Tuesday's inauguration, which is great -- except in Los Angeles on ABC-TV. According to the folks who produced the ads, they were told they were "too controversial to air during the Inauguration, since 'many families will be watching.'"
