Good Samaritan Killed In Fairfield After Helping Jump-Start RV

Well, this is terrible. Good samaritan Rudy Gonzales, 70, of Hayward was struck and killed by an RV at about 10 a.m. Thursday, in the parking lot of a McDonald's in Fairfield. Gonzales had been helping give the RV a jump-start when the RV ran him over, and the driver, Michael Wilbert, 52, of Fairfield, took off without helping Gonzales, according to police. In Fairfield last night, police responded to a reports of a shooting just before 7 p.m. to find two victims, a 39-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, dead on the scene. According to CBS5, the man shot his wife of eight years during an argument in the garage before turning the gun on himself. A massive six-alarm fire in Fairfield at the Macro Plastics Plant on 2250 Huntington Drive has resulted in a shelter-in-place. The blaze started a little before 2 pm this afternoon. Loads of plastic bins used for agricultural purposes are on fire, with no sign of it letting up. The flames are now spreading past the plastic plant. East Coast transplant and D6 Supervisor Chris Daly might soon be headed for safer, more affordable pastures. Daly, it seems, has bought a home in Fairfield, the East Bay (North Bay?) city where his wife and two kids moved in May. “I continue to eat, sleep, and bathe in my home on Stevenson Street” right here in SF, Daly wrote. "I bicycle to City Hall and to district meetings from my home and intend to continue to do so until the end of my Supervisor term and probably for longer." Now, before you all scream 'hypocrisy!' and grab a pitchfork, his family's new house is located two doors down from his in-laws, so that kind of move makes sense, family-wise. Presumably, Daly also plans to remain co-editor at Fog City Journal when he finally calls Fairfield his home. more ›

22-year-old Matt Garcia, one of the youngest elected officials in the state, succumbed to injuries after taking a "single bullet to the back of the head" on Monday night in front of a pal's house. He was allowed to die "naturally" at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek this afternoon, being taken off of life support at his family's request. more ›
