Thank God he did. Otherwise we might not have had this astounding collection of photos, soon to be on display at the deYoung. Showcasing a work that reflected old and new aspects of the city, Tress explained to Time, "I was thinking as a kind of amalgam, all these little bits and pieces, almost as if you're making a collage—a symphony of the city."

Hanging out in the SOMA arrondissement this evening? Yes? Well, then, why not stop by Electric Works on Eighth Street for a photo exhibit by local photographer (and MOREboy) Brandon Norris. Known for his "outlandish and often debaucherous club photography, Norris has created a new body of work whose cast of characters is all too familiar" (that is to say, he snaps the shots of drunkards at Booty Call in the Castro), tonight "Norris ditches the constructed sets, the props, and the costumes in an attempt to expand on the deeper soul of his subjects."

You can check out some of his work at brandonnorrisphotography.com.

This evening's opening reception will also boast a performance by FACT/SF, a San Francisco-based contemporary dance-theater group. Which should prove interesting. And, sure, the place might be littered with stinky alteragays, but, God willing, there might be a little free wine to sooth the senses, not to mention the fine photography of Brandon Norris.

Botero showed the paintings at Berkeley earlier this year at the Doe Library, to large crowds, and in April, emailed Berkeley's Center for Latin American Studies to say he wanted to give the works to them. The gift is worth around $10-15 million.

The paintings'll probably stay with the UC, as the head of the Berkeley Art Museum is reputedly not a big Botero fan, and has indicated that he'd prefer the pieces to stay on campus due to concerns about the display of these pieces.

Especially when it’s on a sunny Friday afternoon. Accordingly, we headed out to see W’s reception at Stanford. Although Stanford protestors are not threatening in any physical sense, they managed to prevent President Bush from visiting the Hoover Institute on campus last Friday. Instead, he and the Hoover fellows showed up at George Schultz’s place (where they were supposed to have dinner) three hours early. Our super secret sources tell us that Mrs. Shultz was not quite ready for guests to show up, but managed to greet the President before running off to change and do her hair and makeup. We also hear that W regaled the Schultz’s children with tales of his C grades (with some B's when he got lucky) at prep school. Triumph of the common man.
