Indulgent Foods, Scenic Places: A Breakfast Sandwich At The Ferry Plaza
We here at SFist are raising the stakes for food porn by infusing our food photos with unadulterated city porn. Gratuitously indulgent food items, photographed (and eaten) in front of iconic San Francisco backdrops. Today's item: A Maple Bacon Breakfast Sausage Sandwich on the Ferry Plaza Embarcadero
Theft, Human Feces, Sponge Baths: Ferry Building Furious Over Occupy SF Crimes
Ferry Building property manager Jane Connors wrote two letters to City Hall detailing supposed crimes perpetrated by some thoughtless Occupy SF members. An increase in shoplifting, break-ins and, ugh, reports of abandoned human feces are just a few complaints Connors has lodged against the local splinter protest group. The Occupy SF encampment, situated in Justin Herman Plaza, sits just across the street from the noted purveyor of fine artisan foods at the Embarcadero, providing a stark contrast between the haves and the (alleged) have-nots.
Pier 38 Businesses, Possibly Pushed Out for America's Cup, Question City's Motives
Businesses at Pier 38, the most expensive waterfront Class-A office space in San Francisco, rushed to find new homes after the city red tagged the waterfront space. Notices appeared on Pier 38 businesses last week, claiming that the area was unsafe for operation. WordPress, blogging company Automattic Inc., Dogpatch Labs, 99 Designs, Maritime Recreation Center, and a slew of others have until September 30 to vacate. To make matters shadier, the city even built a fence around some of the boats so that people can't access them.
OysterFest at Waterbar, 8/27
A tasty, slick reminder for all you oyster fans: Waterbar’s 3rd annual OysterFest cracks open on Saturday, August 27. For a mere $40, you get unlimited access to oysters, Napa wines and artisan beer "as well as oyster shucking, oyster eating and hot sauce contests with Olympic Gold Medalist and Food Network host Brian Boitano as a judge."
Cyclist Hurt In Collision With Truck Dies
Nancy Ho, the 25-year-old helmetless cyclist who was crashed into a truck at Fremont and Mission on Tuesday morning, succumbed to her injuries and died. If you recall, "Nancy Ho, of San Francisco, was traveling east on Mission Street when she was struck by a westbound Berkeley Farms truck as she turned left onto Fremont street around 8 a.m." Even though Ho and the driver saw a green lights ahead of them, "she was making an illegal left turn." Helmetless Cyclist In Serious Condition After Traffic Violation Ends In Tragedy
SFPD issued a correction to their original report regarding this morning's Embarcadero bike-truck crash, saying that the cyclist actually suffered life-threatening injures. (The initial report listed her dead.) Also, it seems that a minor traffic violation on behalf of the cyclist prompted the unfortunate scenario. According to surveillance footage, she had been pedaling east on Mission Street and was hit by the westbound truck as she turned left onto Fremont Street. "Both the truck driver and the bicyclist had a green light, but the bicyclist was making an illegal left turn," SFPD reports.
Speeding Cyclist Almost Kills Pedestrian
A careless bike rider speeding at Embarcadero and Mission Street in San Francisco this morning ran a red light and hit a pedestrian. The Chronicle reports: "The victim, who is in her 60s, was crossing the Embarcadero in a crosswalk with the green light at Mission Street when she was hit by the northbound bicyclist at about 8:30 a.m., said Officer Albie Esparza, a police spokesman."

Man Stabbed Near Pier 26
At around 4:30 on Monday afternoon, a man was stabbed during a large fight near the 400 block of the Embarcadero, next to Pier 26 and the Bay Bridge. "A 19- or 20-year-old man was stabbed in the fight, which involved up to eight people, reports BCN (via SF Appeal). "The man was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive. The fight stemmed from a prior conflict between two groups of people, who apparently ran into each other and reinvigorated the dispute." No arrests have been made.

Lace Up Those Skates: Embarcadero Ice Rink Opens
The seasonal Ice Rink at the Embarcadero Center opens (re-opens?) today and while it lacks any celebrity endorsement or even the promise of Brian Boitano's cheese cart parking nearby, there will be "Aloha Fridays" sponsored by Hawaiian Airlines so you can hula while you sashay around the ice.
Man Trapped Under Train at Embarcadero BART Station
The Embarcadero station was closed at 2:45 p.m. today due to an unidentified man being stuck under a BART train. No word yet on his condition. Reports confirm there will, of course, al be BART delays. "Only trains on the Pittsburg/Bay Point line are running through San Francisco...[t]he trains are not stopping at the Embarcadero station."
Who Murdered Pearla Louis?
That's what the SFPD wants to know, who killed Pearla Louis and stuffed her inside a suitcase and tossed her into the SF Bay? On Tuesday, if you recall, Louis' body was found on the waterfront near Folsom and Embarcadero. She was 52.
Body Found In Suitcase In The Bay
At around 9 a.m. this morning, a tourist walking along the waterfront with his niece found a suitcase holding a dead body. Margarito Real told KTVU, "There was a suitcase floating in the water; my niece saw it first ... We looked at it for a few minutes and then started walking
We told one of the people who was working at the pier that there was a suitcase floating in the water
It just looked suspicious to me."
Canadians to Install Promotional Zip-Line Along Embarcadero
In what could very well be the most exhilarating to happen to San Francisco since the Presidio trampoline park, a bushel of Canadians are setting up a 600-footer in Justin Herman Plaza. Our friends to the north...
Annual Abortion Rally Brings Out Feverish Pro/Con Supporters
The anniversary of Roe v. Wade brought out all kinds of crazily passionate folks to the Embarcadero on Saturday. Braving the rain, anti-abortion ilk showed up for the fifth annual Walk for Life West Coast, a march about Jesus. The pro-abortion rights counter-protest, Day of Action for Reproductive Justice, happening at the music concourse (right next to a crazy man shouting about 9/11 being an inside job), was put on by the Bay Area Coalition for Reproductive Rights.
Halloween: Embarcadero the New Castro for 2009
Something called "Take Back Halloween: Part One" will go down at the Embarcadero this year. Brought to you by the same folks behind FlashDance and Black Rock Roller Disco, the All Hallow's Eve party is, we assume, a non-city-sanctioned event, thus it should promise to be a fun one. (Though, this could be a clever ruse by the city to get people to a locale other than the Castro. Hm. Crafty.)
Radio Shack to Call Itself "The Shack" and Have Promo Event on Embarcadero
We guess this gets filed under KFC-like re-brandings without totally throwing out the company name, but Radio Shack want us to start calling it "The Shack" while still holding onto that R-inside-a-circle logo of theirs. They're doing a kickoff event, or something, using two "fourteen-foot-tall laptops"--one in Times Square in New York and one in Justin Herman Plaza here in SF--on Thursday morning in which they'll be streaming live webcam images back and forth. Also, they promise "contests, bands, etc." No word on who these bands might be.
