Organizers of the annual Dyke March are putting out the (probably empty) threat that they might have to cancel the parade/rally this year unless someone coughs up $30,000. The march traditionally happens the Saturday evening before Pride Sunday, shortly before Pink Saturday festivities in the Castro, and it's the one occasion of the gay calendar when the ladies get to rule the roost and overtake Dolores Park, bared breasteses and all. It's been going on since the early 90s and draws a good 10,000 to 20,000 people.

Dykes On Bikes Win Hair-Pulling Trademark Battle
Dyke on Bikes -- the women who kickoff the annual Pride Parades and Dyke March by riding on their mechanical clitorises, with mammary glands fluttering to and fro -- have won the right to their name. Kudos! No longer having to go by the KRON 4-safe and vulgarly-clinical “San Francisco Women's Motorcycle Contingent,” the ladies who love ladies took steps at owning their name after discovering another group in Wisconsin already in the process of registering the same name for a clothing label (which would've been available at your nearest Ross or Mervyns, we sure.)

A four-year-old boy drowned to death in the 2-foot deep section of the wave pool at Great America in Santa Clara yesterday. There were six lifeguards on duty at the time, but there are no age limits on who can use the pool. Authorities have not identified the boy, or said whether or not he was supervised at the time of the accident. This is the first drowning at Great America but not the first death -- the Chron lists the other four people who've died since the park opened in 1978 (one person hit by a roller coaster, two people fell out of rides, and one person was killed when two roller coaster trains collided.)

Everyone knows the Saturday of Pride Weekend is the Dyke March! Put on your motorcycle helmet and take off your top. The theme this year (for the 15th anniversary) is "Healthcare for All," so there's going to be a mammogram truck on site, as well as the usual diverse array of religions, performers, and peoples. The rally and stage show starts at 3 at Dolores Park; the women go marching at 7.
