Three people suffered "non-life-threatening" wounds after Duwayne Hyman, 25, went loopy on Monday, stabbing three strangers in downtown San Francisco. According to KTVU, the first attack happened at the Montgomery Street Station. A 17-year-old lad, it seems, was sliced on his left side. Ugh. Then, a couple of hours later, Hyman plunged his knife into a 38-year-old man at Jessie and First streets, and once more into the thigh of a 40-year-old guy back at......

Photo by KatyG/Flickr Oh my, word. Did you hear it? We received a few emails mentioning it, but NBC 11 confirms: "As of 4:10 p.m., PG & E activity in the vicinity of California and Drumm streets is disrupting regular cable car service on the California line," read a Muni alert. "Service will be provided by bus shuttles. The 1-California and the 41-Union are switching back at Clay and Drumm streets in both directions.......

We've got rain, and we've got fire: two blazes within about twelve hours of each other in SF. The Globe restaurant in downtown will be shut down for a few weeks for repairs, after a one-alarm fire last night. The fire department says the fire was started by grease stuck in the restaurant's flue. Also, this morning, the SFFD is fighting a fire in an abandoned building on Mission and 7th that's threatening their own......

Oh la la. The reportedly very prickly Reese Witherspoon and rubenesque Vince Vaughn -- whatever, we'd hit it. Hit it hard -- are in town filming their new divorce-themed romcom, Four Christmases. (According to IMBD, it's about a "couple struggle to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas Day." If you're not in tears already, then clearly you have no soul.) And here they are at a....downtown locale of some sort? We......

Well, this certainly rocks. Gina Pell, Internet-y type and founder of Splendora, just started a brand spanking new non-profit, Care Through Action. And their first event, happening next Wednesday, is a fundraiser for Darfur victims. The benefit will be held at Frisson (mmm!), and there will be an exhibition of photographs by noted photographer, Alissa Everett. And sure, a few of you might find the dinner a bit on the pricey side (at $200......

BeyondChron's Paul Hogarth dares to go where many fear to tread: all up in Elisa Stephens' grill. Again. Hogarth writes about the Academy of Art College's plan to swallow up even more of San Francisco's prime real estate. TenderNob/downtown buildings such as the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, the St. Brigid Church, and perhaps the building you're in this very second, have been gobbled up by l'Academy of Art College. Preferring the taste of rent-controlled apartments......

Welcome back, little piggies, from your night of binge eating and sipping. (That is, if you were fortunate enough to do so.) Why not get up, out, and about tonight to work off that meal, hangover with the following: -- Kristi Yamaguchi Holiday Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center: Our Kristi, our Kristi, why hast thou forsaken us? Alas, although no longer branded with Olympic gold-medal allure, you'll still have a blast at the holiday rink......

Last night at a downtown bar, we eavesdropped on a heated debate about the Bonds' indictment. The all-male group of self-proclaimed Bonds-haters argued loudly about whether or not sports should simply start allowing athletes to get as chemically enhanced as they wanna be, health risks be damned. The main pro-roids (pro-drug?) point was this: seeing as how athletes already push themselves to physical extremes, shouldn't synthetic enhancers also count? Since it also deals with......

Why aren't you hiding under the covers yet? The city doesn't want to so much as hear you breathe come tomorrow. So, start upending those floorboards and crawling into that dank attic, or Gavin and Bevan will be coming to get you, Barbara. Hey, it's the return of our Muni Driver. Welcome back, driver! Today he discusses how Muni handles all those big events, like this upcoming Halloween. Question: Who gets to do the big nights and who doesn't and why does everyone complain that there's not enough busses? I've had to either wait for hours or even walk from downtown to the Haight just because there was no buses to take....

As previously noted, one of the best weekend guides in the city is produced by Muni and sent out exclusively to the press. (The PresidiGo, meanwhile, extends that courtesy to its riders.) So, what's on Muni's radar this weekend? Some kinda Nike thing! The "Fiesta on the Hill," which sounds like the name of a children's television program! The Portola Festival, which has been celebrated since 1909 according to this hideous webpage! And also,......

More jet madness! There's nothing like hearing the roar of fighter jets above-head on a sunny afternoon in downtown San Francisco. Seeing as how they have nothing else going on, this week the San Francisco Board of Supervisors will vote on a city proclamation honoring John Barleycorn Pub, calling for its preservation. The bar is set to close, and as already mentioned on Yelp, your local watering hole plays a large part in the aesthetics and feel of a neighborhood, so it's a good idea to pay attention to when these things start closing down around you....

Some of our readers and us came across Park(ing) Day parks. The ones we went to had some of the friendliest frolicking individuals we have ever met who were sober. And these are all sort of downtown-ishy, but if you have images of today's parks elsewhere in the city, tag your photos in flickr with sfist to share them, won' t you? Or visit Park(ing) Day's account here for loads of images. Park(ing) Day could......

That idea of congestion pricing in San Francisco, meaning charging people to drive in certain places around the city, has moved from crazy pipe dream stage to crazy pipe dream planning stage. Recently, the city was awarded $180 million to study the idea and there are already two potential places being mapped out by the people mapping it out. Instead of charging cars to go downtown, the idea would be to take it to the bridge as it were. The first place would be on Doyle Drive, one of the roads that takes you to the Golden Gate Bridge . In fact, one of the conditions of all this money is that the city would just have to do such a thing. Another spot being considered is right outside of Treasure Island. They're thinking up the idea of maybe charging $1 or $2 a car and it could work by having people use the FastTrak system, or at least we hope so as being from the East Coast, having to stop constantly for tolls gets kind of tedious. Also a bad place to be if you've just started a mob war against the Tattaglia and Sollozzo families. ...

More vigilantes? A shooting yesterday afternoon in the Loin may have been an attempt to clean up the neighborhood. At around noon yesterday, authorities found a man with non-life threatening wounds after hearing reports of one shot being fired. The shooter was arrested a few hours later, after what the report called an "intense" building search. Witnesses say the shooter was acting as an armed vigilante of some sort, but the cops won't comment about......

When you live in a neighborhood overrun by donut purveyors and nail shops, with a fair number of fairly unappetizing Chinese restaurants sprinkled in between, the arrival of a new joint featuring a new regional cuisine is cause for at least a little salivation.
