Divisadero Bar Would Like Bay To Breakers Revelers To Drink Their Beer, Use Their Bathroom

Divisadero Bar Would Like Bay To Breakers Revelers To Drink Their Beer, Use Their Bathroom

Madrone, a respectable bar that we like on Divisadero, happens to be right on the path of this weekend's 101st Running of the Tools Bay to Breakers. Although it has been surprisingly empty during the drunken footrace in previous years, the bar is looking to take advantage of the crowds in 2012, as evidenced by this enticing offer for beer and refreshments they've had up in their window at Divisadero and Fell Street all week. more ›

Look At These Moms Waiting To See Train At The Independent

Resident Bay Area mom-rock band Train are in the middle of their intimate tour of San Francisco this weekend. This very friendly and excited group of ladies traveled from all over the country to rent a house together, attend all six of Train's club shows and generally be saved by San Francisco, as it were. When we spoke to them this afternoon they had been camped out in front of the Independent on Divisadero since this morning. Train, meanwhile, will probably arrive later, possibly in a minivan of their own. more ›

The Wait At Divisadero Bi-Rite Is Already Too Long

The Wait At Divisadero Bi-Rite Is Already Too Long

The long-awaited second outpost of upscale picnic goods supply shop Bi-Rite Market has been in the works on Divisadero for what seems like forever now. (Almost 2 years if we're bring sticklers with the calendar.) After snagging a liquor license nearly a year ago, the opening was delayed until January 2012. Obviously, that deadline blew by and now we have word that Divisadero residents hungry for a carefully curated selection of wines and cheeses will have to wait at least another seven months for the privilege. more ›

Separated Bike Lane Coming To Harrowing Fell Street

Separated Bike Lane Coming To Harrowing Fell Street

Bike commuters got a look at the SFMTA's plan for a new and (hopefully) improved bikeway on Fell Streets yesterday. The transportation agency has apparently heard your complaints, cyclists, and they get it — Fell Street is absolutely terrifying to bike on. So, like the successful experiment on Market Street, Fell Street will soon segregate cars and bikes with a separated bike lane. more ›

Occupy Movement Offshoot Takes on Neighborhood Chase Bank Branch

Occupy Movement Offshoot Takes on Neighborhood Chase Bank Branch

The installation of a new branch of Chase Bank on Divisadero Street at Oak Street has spawn at least one hyper-local offshoot of the greater Occupy Sf and Occupy Wall Street movements. As Haighteration reports today, the Occupy SF-adjacent protest group Occupy 401 Divis has sprung up to speak out against the crimes Chase Bank, and the new branch location in particular, has dealt against the neighborhood and local customers California. more ›

Car Hits Pedestrian at Divis and Fell

Car Hits Pedestrian at Divis and Fell

Yikes. A man walking across the street at Divisadero and Fell this morning was hit by a car. The incident happened a little after 7 a.m. "The pedestrian's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening," reports SF Appeal. No word yet if the driver was drunk or cooperative. Be careful out there on the streets, folks. [SFA] more ›

Michael Bauer Defines a Neighborhood, Forgets His Favorite Fried Chicken

Michael Bauer Defines a Neighborhood, Forgets His Favorite Fried Chicken

Over on his Inside Scoop side blog, the Chronicle's insatiable food critic is taking a deeper look at Nopa, one of his perennial favorites today. In the five years it has been open in the (ahem) North of Panhandle neighborhood, he says, the restaurant has, "channeled the spirit of the area more than any other existing business." We here at the SFist Western Branch office, a stone's throw from Nopa on Divisadero, won't argue about the restaurant's quality and welcoming neighborhood vibe, but we'd be remiss if we didn't point out the food critic neglected to disclose one important detail: His guilty fried chicken addiction. more ›

Divis Bi-Rite Opening Pushed Back to 2012

Divis Bi-Rite Opening Pushed Back to 2012

The city's happening -- yes, happening -- Divis/NOPA/Western Addition arrondissement must wait to get their hands on artisan Bi-Rite products. Why? Because they're delaying their Divisaadero store's opening date to 2012, that's why. Haighteration has the scoop: "Bi-Rite, which first announced plans to open a market at 550 Divisadero a full year ago, is pushing back the location’s opening from September of this year to January of 2012." Until then, we strongly urge starving resident to head over to Popeye's Chicken and/or NOPA, located right across the street from one another at 599 Divisadero and 560 Divisadero, respectively. Latest Anti-Graffiti Vigilante Possibly Just a Tagger With Extra Paint

This morning the repeatedly painted frontage of the Harding Theater on Divisadero near SFist's Western Branch office saw some much-needed white washing. You might remember the space, which has been tagged over three or four times since we last mentioned it, as the former home of such well-loved murals as "Kittenzilla", "Unfinished Gaia Piece with the Two Calves" or a slew of unintelligible scribblings legible only to the connoisseurs. more ›

Trial Divisadero Parklet a Hit

Trial Divisadero Parklet a Hit

According to Streetsblog, unlike some of their neighbors two miles South, Western Addition residents are embracing their Pavement to Parks parklet on Divisadero. The parklet, which extends the sidewalk between Hayes and Grove Streets in front of Mojo Bicycle Cafe, giving the venue more outdoor seating, is one month into its six-month trial and is reportedly hugely popular. more ›

NOPA: Apple Pie Contest This Sunday

NOPA: Apple Pie Contest This Sunday

While we cannot stomach the taste and mouth feel of warm fruit, many of you love pie -- apple pie, especially. Some of you even have recipes. Grandma's famous apple pie recipes, if lore is to believed. So, why not enter your favorite warm slice in this Sunday's Johnny Appleseed Apple Pie Contest. No, not a pie eating contest -- where do you think you are, east of I-5? --but a regular old pie contest. The Divisadero Farmers Market (Grove Street, at Divisadero) will be hosting the showdown this Sunday. more ›

Time to Stock up for the Long Harsh Cruel California Winter

Time to Stock up for the Long Harsh Cruel California Winter

Have you been to the Diviz Farmer's Market yet? We blogged skeptically about it back in July, but apparently it's been going gangbusters. So gangbusters, in fact, that they're going to extend it to December. Crisp fall apples are allegedly on the way -- it's going to be a good old-fashioned New England Christmas! more ›

Is It the '70s All Over Again?

Is It the '70s All Over Again?

We snapped the above photo at everyone's favorite traffic mess - the Arco station on Fell and Divisadero. The sign on the fence reminded me of photos we'd seen of gas shortages back before we were sentient, but happily for drivers, this isn't the harbinger of shortages or rationing. The station will soon finish with their repair work, and people will once again be able to fill their H2s for $.02/gallon less than at the station across the street! Sadly, that means the traffic mess will return - today was the first time in a very long time that we'd gone up the Fell Street bike lane without having to dodge out into traffic to avoid a car blocking the lane or the sidewalk. more ›
