You know Cable Car City Pub & Café? It opened a month or so ago? Near the Powell Station? Next to where that guy sells stolen iPhones? Yes, right there in charming Hallidie Plaza. Anyway, via Grub Street, they released a basic cable-esque video for the new diner/sports bar, which, among other things, tells you all about their all-day happy hour, mozzarella sticks, bottles of Miller Lite, the Brainstormer Pub Quiz, outdoor seating (best/most jarring people watching) and other comfiness that some artisan Baghdad by the Bay denizens eschew. Louis' Diner, the cliffside greasy spoon overlooking the ruins of the Sutro Baths, re-opened right on schedule today, albeit with a few of those changes we looked at a couple months back.
Castro's Bagdad Cafe Closes
One of the city's best drunk diners (i.e., late-night greasy spoons in which you can get cheap food while tipsy) closed shop last week. According to Paolo Lucchesi at Inside Scoop, "Bagdad Cafe closed suddenly over the weekend with the turn of the calendar. Turns out the lease was up, and according to the departing folks at Bagdad Cafe, new tenants have already taken over."
Playboy Names Orphan Andy's in Castro One of Nation's Best Late-Night Diners
As many San Franciscans know, getting food after midnight in this town is no easy feat. We still have our share of late-night diners though, like the Grub Steak, Sparky's, Lori's and Mel's. Only one made the cut in Playboy magazine's A-list of the Top 10 Late-Night Diners in the country that "truly embody the late-night experience," and that's Orphan Andy's on 17th Street in the Castro.
