Shoot Your Neighbors

Oh my. This site sounded much more enthralling before we delved further. Still, it's interesting -- ripe with community-building spirit and harmonious stuff like that. more ›

SFist Has Sold Out

We have to be transparent about such things, so we'd just like to let our readers know that SFist has been purchased by SF Metblogs, who in turn have been purchased by Yahoo. What does this mean to you? Absolutely nothing. We'll still bring you the eight to ten or more posts everyday on issues that are important to folks in the San Francisco Bay Area. more ›

Eyes Wide Open

If you made it by Civic Center in the last few days, you probably noticed a very somber art installation occupying the plaza. Row upon row of boots and shoes stood at quiet attention, representing the American soldiers and Iraqi civilians who have lost their lives since the United States invaded Iraq. Arranged by the American Friends Service Committee, the Eyes Wide Open project is touring the country. You can catch it again in Sacramento from the 29th to the 31st. more ›

SFist Was Robbed!

JPG Magazine Debuts

You can now purchase the first issue of JPG Magazine, created by local bloggerstars Derek Powazek and Heather Powazek Champ. This is an actual, printed book of beautiful photos culled from dozens of talented photographers who like to share and discuss their work on the internet. more ›

Week in SFist

If you want to know what weird songs are turning up on SFist's collective shuffle setting, check out SFist listens on Wednesdays. We'll also be chronicling the efforts of a NaNoWriMo novelist for the rest of the month - find out what it's like to write an entire novel in a month, or "What Danielle Steele does once a year for parking permit money." more ›

Think Global, Act Local

In all the hubbub about Bush's "mandate," new dark allegations about possible voter fraud in Florida and Ohio, and general wailing about the death of the Democratic party, it's easy to forget the usual state of liberal-on-liberal violence in our very own home town! We've gotta keep an eye on these things -- since the local government's all we've got left now! more ›

Photobloggers Unite

EssEffist was invited to a gathering of Bay Area Photobloggers recently, and wanted to let other shutterbugs know that if they want to trade tips or just learn more about photoblogging in general, they should mark their calendar for this Saturday. Hosted by Derek Powazek and Heather Champ, photobloggers extraordinaire, it's being held at the Reverie Cafe in the Haight. more ›
