Dennis Herrera blasted the oddly-titled Campaign for California Families today for their latest, useless court of appeal tactic to get the gays to stop all of this damn marriage nonsense. The CCF, it seems, filed with the California Court of Appeal another benign motion to stay the California Supreme Court's May 15 decision to let the queers wed. City Attorney Dennis Herrera had this to say: "I am not aware of a process in......

Oh, so now that Ed Jew's gone from the politics scene, now the truth comes out! Leland Yee reveals to Matier and Ross that he was the person who originally called the authorities about the Quickly shakedown! So according to Yee, he was originally contacted by the Quickly owners, and he called Dennis Herrera. Herrera was out of town and said he'd look into it when he got back. When Herrera got back, though, the......

That's a picture taken by reader Angela of a counter-protest sign at the June 07 Ed Jew rally that says "RESIGN" in Chinese. Well, Angela -- that day is nigh: City Attorney Dennis Herrera takes a break from infuriating the ACLU, the NRA, and Mark Geragos to announce that he's holding a press conference at 1 p.m. where Ed Jew is expected to resign from the Board of Supes. Ed's resignation is in response......

In what's turning into a slapfight between city attorneys over civil gang injunctions, public defender Jeff Adachi recently sent a proposal over the Board of Supes that, according to the Examiner, "would give named alleged gang members priority when it comes to receiving city services, including, 'city funded economic development, employment, vocation, educational, housing, asset building, mental health, drug treatment and social service programs.' And Dennis Herrera is none too pleased....

After a federal judge blocked "a key provision of a new city program providing basic health care to uninsured residents, City Attorney Dennis Herrera is scheduled to petition the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today for an emergency stay pending appeal to help SF maintain the "Healthy San Francisco" program. The program, which would help uninsured San Franciscans receive health care, was scheduled to begin on January 2, 2008. According to CBS 5: U.S.......

Goodbye, Ed Jew's attorney Steven Gruel! The revolving door that is beleaguered former District 4 Supervisor Ed Jew's legal team spins once again, depositing the pugnacious Mr. Gruel on the street and leaving the team's latest addition Stuart Hanlon (hired to replace Bill Fazio in the state criminal case) in charge of all of Ed's legal matters. Gruel, as you may recall, was handling Ed's case on the city ethics charges and the federal racketeering......

The supernatural forces behind the Ed Jew storyline are not pleased with Halloween and earthquakes hogging all of the attention. As of today, Ed Jew officially has his fourth legal suit brought up against him. After asking Jerry Brown if he could get all litigious on Jew a few months ago, today SF City Attorney Dennis Herrera finally filed the lawsuit we've all been waiting for -- or not -- that he didn't live where he was supposed to live when he ran in 2006 and took office in early 2007....

State Attorney General Jerry Edmund G. Brown gave the OK for SF City Attorney Dennis Herrera to sue Ed Jew today. A civil lawsuit like this would permanently remove Jew from office. What's more, according to the Chronicle, Brown said: We find that it would be in the public interest, particularly for the (Board of Supervisors) and the residents and voters of District Four, to have a prompt judicial resolution of whether (Jew) has......

City Attorney Dennis Herrera took a break from harassing that nice Ed Jew today, introducing a lawsuit against three gangs. Our knowledge of streetgang etiquette is pretty much zero, but we can't imagine the "Knock Out Posse" will be giving him the courtesy of an RSVP. At any rate, the plan is to use an injunction to impose stiffer penalties for gang activity in certain areas. In the past, this technique worked against the......

Now here's a story we haven't mentioned in awhile, the poor saga of Amy Lee. Lee, if you remember, was the former head of the Building Inspection Department who was opposed by Joe O'Donaghue and his Residential Builders Association gang. The City's Atttorney's Office came out today to say that as far as they know, there was nothing improper about handing over thousand of dollars of "catastrophic illness pay" to Ruby Rippey-Tourk. The payment had become a bit of an issue because Ruby was able to get money reserved for "catastrophic illness" and nobody is quite sure why she needed it. ...

Man, we thought we'd be able to get through a week without any sort of Gavin bombshell, but we were wrong. As the saying goes, everytime we think we're out, he pulls us back in. So today there's a big story about Ruby Rippey-Tourk taking a paid ten-week leave of absence maybe illegally, maybe not. Basically, the time off given to her was not commiserate with the amount of time she worked. Now, employees down in city hall are allowed to give their sick time to somebody if they really, really need it and supposedly, Ruby's fellow coworkers donated their time to her. The question, of course, is whether or not they did it out of the kindness of their own hearts or whether Gavin asked them to while making all sorts of hints about how they should really, really donate their time. The Bay Guardian is reporting that the time off was requested by her husband, Alex and that her coworkers wanted to help out. Fog City, however, says that her coworkers weren't very down with it all. The other thing is that the money she was given was much more than normally allowed. ...

Lena%20Mini%20Tow%20Truck%2001227.jpg Dennis Herrera's already moving to reward the 98% of San Franciscans who reelected him city attorney (not you, SFist Jackson!) by announcing that he's extracted $5.7 million in settlement for the City against possibly the most-hated city contractor in history. That's right, the city's getting $5.7 million out of City Tow! City Tow will not be admitting responsibility for any wrongdoing (typical), but the settlement will resolve a three-year-old case where the city and the state had alleged that City Tow was systematically underreporting the amount of money it was making selling towed or abandoned cars and stiffing the governments. As State AG Bill Lockyer says, "The only thing more aggravating than finding your car towed is learning that the towing company is ripping you off in the process." Sure! Last year, City Tow previously settled about $400,000 of claims that they charged illegal "storage" fees for the privilege of depriving you of your car. Check out some of these other horror stories too. City Tow was fired by SF in 2003. Your cars are now towed within city limits by AutoReturn. ...

charlton-heston-nra.jpg Good ol' Chris Daly -- in an interview with the NY Times about Proposition H (reduces swelling), he said about the anti-H forces, "I'm crazy, but they're crazier." (Special bonus quote from the article: Daly is described as "a self-described far-left progressive." Yes he is!) Well, Daly may or may not be proven right as the NRA rumbles into town, so upset about the 58% yes on H vote that they filed suit directly in the state appellate court. Why don't they have to go through the Superior Court like everyone else, huh? They shoot their way in or something? Prop. H prohibits any SF resident from owning a handgun, and will require that everyone turn in their guns by April 1, 2006. Second Amendment advocates are claiming that the law makes us unsafer, would require cops to go gun-free, and would prohibit people from using guns in opera productions. Daly says police are exempt and operas and school plays can just use toy guns. Dennis Herrera, fresh from his 98% victory (almost as popular as Saddam Hussein!), says he's confident the city as a local municipality can regulate guns however it wants. ...
