On the heels of two Muni messes, SFist's Leanne Maxwell tell us about another meltdown currently in progress. A broken-down inbound train in the tunnel between Duboce and Van Ness is causing delays this afternoon. 511 reports, "On Wednesday, March 9th, at 4:05pm, SF Muni reports Inbound delays on the L-Line at Van Ness Station due to mechanical problem."

KRON 4 Morning News reports that Muni is having major delays throughout the city on all metro lines. What's the cause of the problem? Not sure yet. However, commuters are reporting delays of up to 30 minutes. We'll update as soon as we know more. Until then, so sorry, Muni commuters. This morning, a 58-year-old man died "after being found between a curb and San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail tracks" at Church Street at 22nd Street a little after 9 a.m. This resulted in police activity slowing down service. But, according to SF Appeal, none one yet knows how, exactly, he died. While the cause of death has yet to be determined, and police are still trying to figure that out, Appeal received an unconfirmed tip, saying, "'I just got a call from REDACTED saying that the J church incident involved a dude dying because they got hit by the J line...possibly between the inbound and outbound cars...'" Heavy. We'll update you as soon as we know more. Oh, and service has since been restored to normal operation.

Around 70 Muni buses serving more than two dozen biodiesel buses were delayed this morning after a union steward with Transport Workers Union Local 250-A blocked the gate and prevented the buses from leaving the Muni facility in the Dogpatch neighborhood. According to Muni officials the upset union steward disrupted service due to a dispute with management "over whether or not a personnel assignment was decided on the basis of seniority." The incident occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.

"We have a zero tolerance policy for this sort of behavior, which negatively impacted our customers who we are all working to serve," fumed Nathaniel P. Ford Sr., SFMTA Executive Director/CEO. "As we address this issue with the union, we will take all available legal steps to prevent such an incident from happening again."

Muni goes on to say that "state law prevents the SFMTA from publicly discussing individual disciplinary processes." But we have a hint that said disciplinary action involves a feather on the wrist.

Muni has since returned to "normal" operating service.

After an eastbound train rammed into "an object" in the Transbay Tube this afternoon, riders can expect delays of "at least 35 minutes." Trains are running on a single track through the tube, so, you know, plan accordingly.

Seriously. Or, so it looks that way. It's reading the times of both trains. Or so we you know.

Due to a "system-wide signal interruption," according to a Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dun, service has come to a standstill. It has something or other to do with a "computer malfunction in the main signal operating system in the San Jose yard." SFist readers have also told us that they're stuck at Bayshore. It is not yet known just when service will be fully restored. In related news, there was a "stage 3 at central," whatever that means, on Bart that resulted in a train getting stuck under the bay. Bart service, though, seems to be running as usual now.

What a delightfully diverting game of Muni roulette! Several stops on the 43 line will be "intermittently closed." Maybe they're open; maybe they're not -- the only way to know for sure is to waste your time walking over to them to check! And then waste your time walking to another stop. And hey, where exactly ARE those other stops? There's no map on the sign, so if you don't know the area, you're out of luck. But it's not like the Presidio Trust has any interest in tourism, right?

We called Mark Helmbrecht in the Presidio Trust's Office of Public Affairs (415-561-5418, if you're interested), and he confirmed, yes, there's no way to know when the stop will or won't be open. We emailed Muni, too, and they haven't offered any new details. Here's a thought: why not just say, "the stops will definitely be closed from 9 to 6. And here's a map to where you should go." Skip the guessing game and just tell people what to expect. At least that way, the Trust doesnt seem unreliable and undeserving of, well, trust.

We have to hand it to the Presidio on this one -- in the field of Diminishing Public Confidence In Muni, they've actually outdone Muni. At least with NextBus we knew when to wander out to the stop; and now the Presidio has found a way to circumvent NextBus. Well done, everyone.

Wheelchair man, it seems, demanded to get on per federal law and holds up train at Civic Center; Muni operator and passengers refuse to let him on. Operator was literally screaming at the guy to get out of the doorway of the packed train.
