A 63-year-old Santa Cruz man had been living with a dead body for the last week. Which? Creepy. The Examiner's Mike Aldex reports: "Parolee John Clauer has allegedly been playing house with a deceased 30-year-old woman for at least a week. Cops found the body after responding to a call about an “unusual smell” coming from the apartment in the 1100 block of E. Cliff Drive." Missing Nurse Found Dead One Year Later
The body of Donna Mae Dowell, the 68-year-old nurse who worked at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View and went missing in December 2008, was just identified after being found by a hiker in an unincorporated area near Milpitas on December 4th. Her body was found still in the Honda Accord in which she disappeared, and was identified using dental records. The cause of death was likely suicide, and Ms. Dowell -- who had been reportedly depressed over the possibility of losing her home due to financial difficulties -- repeatedly told friends and family to take note of her license plate number before she went missing. Police searched the area for her car but came up short, and it took nearly a year before anyone reported seeing the car in this semi-remote area, near Calaveras and Felter Roads in Santa Clara County.
Woman's Body Found in Berkeley Aquatic Park
A woman's body was found in the parking lot along Berkeley's bayside Aquatic Park this morning. And we quote, via SF Gate: "The area is known for drug use and prostitution, but [police] said it was too early to say whether those factors were involved in the slaying." ABC 7 has raw video of the cops on the scene. We promise we'll stop dropping these terrible bits of news on you first thing in the morning just as soon as they stop happening.
Dead Body Found On 5-Fulton
On Friday night, a dead body was found on a 5-Fulton Muni bus. The body has been identified as Christopher Feasel of San Francisco. As the corpse showed no signs of trauma, investigators are still trying to determine the caused of death. (Our guess is the excruciating wait for an elusive 5-Fulton bus did him in.) According to police Sgt. Lyn Tomioka, "Workers discovered Feasel around midnight Friday at the bus yard at Presidio Avenue and Bush Street," but the bus was parked at around 6:30 pm that night.
Oakland Marks Oldest Homicide Victim Ever
The body of Ivarene Lett, age 97, was found beaten to death two nights ago in her 6th floor apartment in the Adams Point neighborhood of Oakland, near Lake Merritt. She was a tiny woman, barely five feet tall, who recently passed her driving test and who enjoyed going to a weekly dance class and driving her vintage Chevy. As far back as city records go, Ms. Lett appears to be the oldest homicide victim in Oakland's history. And it's been quite a year for such records, with Oakland recognizing its oldest homicide suspect just about 12 months ago, who was 94 at the time of his arrest for killing his landlord. Comments on Lett's case range from "pretty concerning" to "the ultimate in depravity." We'd go with #2.
