Deepak Sandhar Singh of Hayward slathered the stones with a two-gallon jug of soybean oil that he purchased in order to purify them because they "were evil."

Oakland Tribune goes on to report, "Singh also left small plastic figures, pieces of string and ribbons at several grave sites and was seen by grounds keepers moving flowers between headstones."

The vandalized headstones were discovered by cemetery workers on Thursday. Clean up cost around $5,000. Singh was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.

Body Found at Geary and Gough

According to reports, traffic on Geary at Gough and Franklin moves sluggish this morning after a dead body near St. Mary's Cathedral. <a href="http://sfappeal.com/news/2011/10/traffic-snarled-after-bo...

SF News

body

crime

dead

geary

guns

Brock Keeling

An inspiration for artists like John Waters, among others, local filmmaker George Kuchar died on September 6 following a battle with cancer. The San Francisco Art Institute released the following statement today: "It is with great sadness that the San Francisco Art Institute announces that George Kuchar, a longtime professor and influential figure in experimental and underground filmmaking, died on September 6, 2011 following a battle with cancer."

While not many knew about Kuchar -- we never heard of him until today, to be honest -- many local art students and creative types chimed in on varying forms of social media to express their sadness and appreciation of his work. "Born and raised in the Bronx, Kuchar was a longtime resident of San Francisco and had taught at the San Francisco Art Institute for over forty years," notes Bay Citizen. "He continued to make films of all kinds while at SFAI, embracing the video revolution of the 1980s and often collaborating with students."

Holden told SFist that, after arriving at the beach, the stench was "worse than the Old Transbay restroom on a hot Friday night."

ABC 7, who reports that it was a blue whale, notes that the "85-foot whale was found washed up on the beach...with her male fetus just 50 feet away." Scientists don't think the whale died naturally. Why? "Because she's so healthy, they think a ship's propeller may be to blame, but it'll be several days before they know for sure."

The whale also suffered a shark bite, as evidenced in one of the accompanying photos.

In honor of Michael Jackson's 51st birthday, and in remembrance of his untimely murder, the San Francisco Wax Museum will get a new Jacko wax statue to go along with the one they already have. "Michael Jackson had a lot of styles and a lot of looks," said Wax Museum owner Rodney Fong. "In tribute to his legacy, to mark his birthday we’ll show 1991 Dangerous Michael Jackson from the video Black and White era, along with the “Motown 25th Anniversary” era Michael. We believe this makes us one of the only Wax Museums with two MJ figures." The new fax figure debuts tomorrow (his 51st birthday, by the way, would have been on Saturday; he was <s>Leo</s> Virgo too, which explains a lot) and "the first 10 people in line on Friday will be allowed to get their photos taken with the King of Pop and get free admission to the Museum’s entire collection." What's more, the first ten people will "be able to make a free 'wax hand' from the Museum to take home as a souvenir." Which: awesome.

Giants Partner Sue Burns Dies

According to Henry Schulman at SFGate, San Francisco Giants senior general partner Sue Burns, the team's largest sh...

SF News

baseball

dead

Giants

Bay Area Sports

Brock Keeling

Born Mladen George Sekulovich; March 22, 1912 - July 1, 2009, this crusty-but-benign thespian could play second fiddle like no one could in such films as (Oscar, Tony), On the Waterfront, How the West Was Won and Patton.
Billy Mays, 50, famously loud and bearded informmercial spokesman, died this morning. (Egads! First Ed, Farrah, Jackson, now this. Too much to bear, folks.) According to reports, Mays finished wrapping up an Oxiclean commercial in Philadelphia the other day, and returned home to Florida. He was found dead early this morning in his Tampa, Florida home by his wife. No word yet on his exact cause of death. But Deborah, Mays' wife, released the following statement, "Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times."

Roundup of Michael Jackson Coverage

According to TMZ, "Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back."

What?

Update: According to ABC, Jackson was rushed to the UCLA Hospital after a heart attack. The LA Times reports that "paramedics performed CPR on the 50-year-old King of Pop, who was not breathing when they arrived at his home."

However, no major outlets are reporting that the 'King of Pop' is, in fact, dead. (Egads. First Ed, then Farrah, now this.)

Update II: CNN reports that Michael Jackson is alive. Hmm. Stay tuned for more updates.

Update III: reports that he's alive but in a coma. (It's a veritable MSM feeding frenzy! Listen closely and you can hear every newsroooms going full-blown insane right now.)

Update IV: Ryan Seacreast, for what it's worth,. says "dead." The American Idol hosts says,"I am hearing from a source at ucla medical center, michael jackson has died."

Also, the LA Times just confirmed it. "Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times."

RIP, Michael Jackson.

Update V: CNN (finally) says, 'OK, now he's dead, at least that's what LA Times and CBS say.' But, for what it's worth, they haven't independently confirmed it. Otherwise, yeah, sadly, Jackson died today. There you have it. Sigh.
LA Times

Farrah Fawcett, Dead at 62

RIP, Farrah.

SF News

cancer

dead

farrah fawcett

Brock Keeling

RIP, Farrah.

While she's best remembered for her seminal work in Charlie's Angels and bestowing the world with a signature hairstyle, we'll remember Fawcett best as Francine Hughes, an abused wife in the single greatest and saddest TV movie of all time, The Burning Bed -- a telefilm that spawned countless, lesser Lifetime imitators.

The acclaimed actress died this morning at 9:28 a.m. at St. John’s Heath Center in Santa Monica where she had returned "for treatment of complications from anal cancer, first diagnosed three years ago," reports People Magazine.

Alas.
