There's never a good time to visit the emergency room, but being forced to do so on the same day as Bay to Breakers would definitely be an even bigger bummer. We thought our fianceé Daniel Phifer would be avoiding the whole mess altogether when he ventured over to Berkeley on Sunday morning to engage in some very adult activities. Unfortunately, he returned to San Francisco a few hours later with a shattered wrist (he should've attended the Safety Day in March!) and a visit to the Kaiser emergency room that inconveniently coincided with the winding down of SF's annual drunken marathon—well, one of them, at least. For those unfamiliar with the phenomenon that is "Ghost Ride the Whip," let us get you up to speed. Ghost riding is when the driver of a car puts it in neutral or allows it to idle, and then the driver (and passengers) exit while it's still rolling and dance beside it or on the hood or the roof. It was started in the Bay Area and was coined by Mac Dre and later popularized by E-40, as part of the hyphy culture, which features ghost riding as one of the automobile tricks done in sydeshows. more ›
