The Warriors: Making a (home) stand

If hoops is a game of streaks, right now the Warriors are Frank the Tank. They're flying so high, they're looking down on the Democrats. They're looking so good, Gavin Newsom is jealous. They're buzzing so hard, they're getting calls from Courtney Love (and Mel Gibson?).

Week in -Ist

Week in -Ist

The -ists this week had politics on the brain. And what goes better with politics? Partying-- that's two great tastes in one. Oh, and Kevin Federline...can't forget about Kevin Federline. That's three great tastes in one. -Bostonist discussed two big state issues-- what sort of math constitutes a marriage and what kind of alcohol can be sold in most grocery stores. And the politically minded Curt Schilling went on "Jeopardy!". more ›

Wednesday: The New Thursday

Well, the internets are all abuzz over the 8th annual "One Night Stand," put on by SomArts. We're willing to go with the flow and recommend an erotic art party -- not to mention Indra, known as the "Courtney Love of Cabaret." Wow. That's a reputation to live up to. more ›

Animal Roundup

Animal Roundup

lg.jpg Awww, look at that sweet duck. This duck is one of the survivors of last week's attack at the Campbell car wash, and was just found to have suffered a broken leg. The vets expect the duck to recover within 3-4 weeks. Meanwhile, the reward fund for information is now over $11,000. Editor and wag SFist Jackson forwards this along for the Animal Roundup, with the following note:

Beached whale! And no, I'm not talking Courtney Love.
Oh, Jackson, you wag! Editrix Eve suggests bringing a clothespin for the nose if you're going anywhere near Half Moon Bay. And finally, newsflash! Dog bites man! A postal worker was bitten by a Doberman-shepherd mix today on Haight between Div and Scott. SF Animal Care and Control has put the dog under quarantine for 10 days, and the owner was cited. Picture from CBS 5. Sorry, TBAiT! more ›

We Read The Weeklies

We Read The Weeklies

Thanks to SFists Jackson and Eve for reading the weeklies last week! sfbg84.jpg Last week's weekly of the week, as picked by you, our readers: The Guardian! Gerardo Sandoval continues his all-out media blitz, this time about Comcast (our main priority vis-a-vis Comcast is to get them to add Boomerang, the classic cartoon channel.) Where's our free wifi? A guy died in the SF jail (covered also by the Chron). Annalee Newitz on machinima (like fan fiction, but for videogame hacks). Cover: Oakland band Battleship (who get hit by firecrackers in their shows). Sonic Reducer: local bands go to a bar in LA and run into Lance Bass, Ryan Cabrera, and Courtney Love. The EBX: Bottom Feeder with an excellent Law and Order episode: a possibly-delusional woman who killed her husband, whom she met when she was a patient in his psychiatric practice, is defending herself and will be cross-examining her son. A paper targeted at the Oakland inner city and covering sex gossip, called BootyCrack! Bobblehead day at the Oakland Coliseum! Cover article: the overprescription of psychiatric drugs. And the allegedly-homophobic dancehall star Beenie Man comes to town and puts on a decent show. After the jump: the SF Weekly, and we go back to autocratically picking the weekly of the week. more ›
